awoodford
Is it possible to get to the Leeds show by public transport? I see no indication on the website that it is. Alan.
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted September 6, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 6, 2015 There is a bus from the bus station in the centre of Leeds - its the 36 to Harrogate http://www.harrogatebus.co.uk/36.htm This gets you to near the School Gates - you then need to walk up the drive - its a bit of a walk but well worth it. On saturday you can also catch the48 from Vicar Lane but again it will involve a walk to the school http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/leeds/journey_planning/timetables/timetable.php?day=2&source_id=2&service=48&routeid=13038251&operator=16&source=sp Bus stops and the walk to the Grammar School are shown on http://www.doogal.co.uk/ShowMap.php?postcode=LS17%209NA hope this helps

We will be having a display of local maps and railway pictures from John and Owen Gibbon this year. The maps are a lot older than the Club! RMweb Premium Barry O Posted October 13, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 13, 2015 As noted above we have a few layouts from the Club and its members attending this year. Pete Kirmond (builder of Blea Moor) has moved into American O gauge and I have to say a big boy in O Gauge is impressive! His new layout Laramie Engine Depot fetures sound fitted big boys fitted with sound and a very large turntable.
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted October 15, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 15, 2015 Occasionally we have to do work to prepare for the show involving things other than layouts. Last week we moved our handrails and stanchions from the store in what was once the world's largest flax mill. One of our members has taken them off to his workshop where he is planing the tops and revarnishing them. Many thanks to Ken who is also bringing his layout depicting part of the Derwent Valley Light Railway to the show this year. Men's grandfather was a Stationmaster on the line and he has first hand experience of the working of the line. Come along and enjoy both parts of his handiwork. RMweb Premium Barry O Posted October 15, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 15, 2015 His baseboards are built, the point work is built but he can only fasten one to the other in the winter when he isn't cruising in his motor and butty! The layout for this year was the last bit of the DVLR he modelled and did attend the Ebor Group show in York earlier this year. He has also benn building new coaching stock including the ex SR 6 wheel brake van and ex NER 4/6 wheeled coaches. Busy man! Baz
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted October 17, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 17, 2015 Well, with some wire strangling completed over the last few weeks we finally, at 3pm today ran a train around the layout. And it just happened to be a Blue Pullman! I will try and add a link to the video taken but isn't it great when a plan comes together! Before the trains ran around the layout we did have a minor accidentals... a test locomotive was being driven round by one of our major wire stranglers Andy Morris -who forgot the last baseboard wasn't yet in place.... emergency brakes were applied.... since then we have run trains on both the up and down mainlines...... so thats one more step towards our show.
