Richard Jones
Drilling crankin holes in plastic centred wheels always worries me as it is essential to get them perpendicular to the wheel face - the attached photos show a liitle accessory I have made for my NSW Rivet press to assist me hand "twiddling" a 0.8 mm drill and 14BA tap through undrilled wheels. It consists of a simple brass bush, bored 1/4" that drops into the rivet press and a couple of 1/4" dia rods - one centred drilled to take a 0.8 mm drill and the other to take the 14BA tap, both with a cross drilled and tapped hole to secure the drill/tap. I discovered that the material I had was rather hard (possibly stainless steel), so the rod that carried the 0.8mm drill has a brass insert in the end... The little jig to ensure consistent crankpin throw is copied from Alan Sibley's article in MRJ 143. Happy Modelling in 2015
