RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted January 10, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2015 I've become aware of this new book via a colleague at work, and I understand that the author may be a serving railwayman. Looks like an interesting read and also raising money for a good cause.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 10, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2015 It is an excellent and absolutely fascinating book which while not fully comprehensive (for example it concentrates on several army regiments in some detail while excluding the others) contains some really good stuff. I was particularly interested in the number of railwaymen from non-maritime jobs who finished up in major naval actions while details of those who died in RFC/RNAS service is very illuminating when you consider their seemingly humble backgrounds. It is just one of a number of railway oriented books that have emerged in the first year of Great War commemoration and of those I have seen (which is probably far from all) it is one well worth adding to one's library and definitely worth the cover price if the subject area is of interest. I received it as a Christmas present although it was one I had found for myself in Waterstones, oddly one of the other books I received came complete with the good Capn's signature
