i found this video on youtube it has peco 16.5mm glyn valley style trams and i was wondering where i can purchase from and what scale track i would need i.e 0 gauge track or 00 gauge..I know to the purist they'll say thats 7mm scale 016.5 mm but in layman's terms does that mean it runs on 00 gauge track i.e 7mm scale people bodies but runs on 4mm scale track a bit like 009 narrow gauge running on 2mm track but with 4mm people and scenery, i'm quite confused. Thanks.

Yes. 0-16.5 runs on 00/H0 track, using 7mm figures and buildings.

Peco does also do a separate type of track for 0-16.5. I'd presume that has slightly different detailing, spacing and so on then the 00 equivalent.

Not sure where specifically you can buy the Peco kits from, but it's probably worth asking if your local model shop can obtain them. Alternatively, you could maybe have a look at some specialist society sites for links to suppliers.

The Peco O-16.5 track is Code 100, and has, obviously, rather bigger sleepers than the OO version. It is thus quite robust, even compared to the OO type. It is less "caricatured" than the 9mm narrow gauge track Peco used to make, maybe still do, which was called "crazy" with reason.

Ah, the difference between gauge and scale!

On16.5 is O-Gauge, which is itself badly phrased as it refers to a scale not a gauge! The modelling is to 7mm to the foot, or 1:43.

The track is 16.5mm gauge which is the same as that used for both HO and OO which is why this scale/gauge combination took off, the ready availability of track.

This scales out in 1:43 as just over 2'4" but is used for a wide variety of prototype gauges from 2" to 2'6" by modellers avoiding having to make their own track.

The Peco 0n16.5 track looks best as the chairs and sleepers are scaled to look right with other 7mm items, but if you are planning to model a prototype where the sleepers aren't visible, like a tramway or a yard, or even neglected track where mud etc. have covered things then any OO or HO track with the same code rail could be used.

The Peco coaches and wagons are nice little kits, I don't know about the locos though. Very few people will stock them, but any model shop that sells the Peco ranges can order them in for you.

I second the recommendations to look into the 7mmNGA, they are a very friendly bunch, have a good magazine and also stock a variety of modelling goods.

You'll also find that Narrow Gauge modellers tend to be a more relaxed lot than standard gauge ones for some reason, a lot more freelance and outright imaginary subjects thought there are also many excellent modellers of accurate prototypes.
