irishmail
Hi all, I thought I would start a thread about my version of 'Operation Build it' as featured in Hornby Magazine from October 2013. Why 'Three in One'? you may ask. Well I have quite a diverse interest in various railways, but for this one I am going to restrict it (with some modellers licence) to the following :- 1) British Rail late 60's - early 70's 2) British Rail late 70's - early 80's and 3) Irish Rail mainly 1980's & 90's. Here are a couple of pics after the track was laid and wired up prior to testing in DCC, having first tested in DC. The main station area is 7' x 2' then there is another 3' section where the track curves to the left towards the fiddle yard making it an L shape terminus to fiddle yard type layout. . More pics and info to follow in due course. Regards John

irishmail
I have made more progress on my 'Operation Build It' layout. The tack has now been ballasted and the rail sides painted a rust colour. Future work will involve weathering the track and ballast. The platform foundations have also been made, next stage is the platform surface. Hopefully over the coming months I will progress with the scenic side of the layout. irishmail
A posed scene with a pair of 20's and a rake of MK2a/b coaches on a 'summer special'. One of the 20's is factory fitted with DCC sound and I have another sound decoder on order for the other 20.
Removed a/c
Shall enjoy following along on this build. Wouldn't mind having a go at this myself. Regards Scott
irishmail
A bit more progress has been made over the last few days. The first pic shows the platform which has now had the top surface added. I used Metcalfe N gauge paving sheet for this as I had some from an abandoned N project. The N pavers work out approx. 18" x 12" in 00 scale and do not look too out of place for the platform surface. Also in the background can just be seen the start of some landscaping behind the bay platform. The second pic is part of the goods yard. I have used here Will's cobbles and made an area of inset track. There will eventually be a good shed with both rail and road access. The third pic shows the start of the main station area. The buildings are only placed temporality in position for the time being. Regards John
irishmail
Well since 4th February last year, I still have not got any further with this. ( Have spent a bit of time improving my Campbell Riverside exhibition layout). Now going for change of direction and going to make some alterations. Going to keep the terminus part of the track plan and remove the sidings then make a through platform on a curve so that I will have a through terminus. This will hopefully give me a terminus to fiddle yard along with a continuous run option. Just need to work on a track plan for the extension.
