C&L

Does anyone know whether C&L are still working on "advance orders only" basis for exhibitions? I did read about this some time ago on their website, but at the NEC they had stock to sell; I'm not sure if they've changed that policy or whether that was just a one-off for the NEC.

They are at Stafford over the weekend and I wouldn't mind picking up some bits and pieces. Whether or not I go is somewhat dependent on whether C&L are selling stock there or just with their demo bench. (no offence intended to other suppliers or exhibitors- I'm sure it's worth going anyway, it is just that I'm particularly looking out for C&L and of course, as it is the Friday before, their phones will be switched to answering machine so I can't ask them!)

Thanks
Derek

They have 2 stands which attend shows, the larger one Peter uses and the smaller one Phil operates. To be certain (especially if the small stand is at the show) its best to pre order, but both stands carry stock. It depends what you require and they will have more stock at the start of the first day than at the end of the last. You would be unlucky if they sold out of the most popular items, the more specialist the item the greater chance of being sold out towards the end of the show. Some of the more specialist Exactoscale items may be mail order only though. They do take a lot of stock with them to shows, the pre order thing was just for the odd show a year or so ago.

Thanks John

Nothing unusual- just chairs and rail....

I'm trying to put into practice some of the techniques I've learned from your thread. I'm still not happy with it yet, but it's getting better- but I'm running out of raw material to destroy (I mean practice on).

If I can't get it at the show then I'll just make a decent order and do it on their web shop. I think with suppliers like CL, who can get VERY busy after a show, it's better to plan a bit ahead as to what you need, but in this case (ie I haven't a bl**dy clue what I'm doing) it's not so easy.

Excellent company though- we'd be well and truly lost without them.

It's a bit late now John!

I didn't even know about the Stafford exhibition until this afternoon.

Maybe it'll be easier if I just mail order next week- it's not as if a bit of a wait is going to be life or death.

BTW I don't know if this is classed as sensible or as defeatist, but I was thinking about ordering some ready made vee's (not the whole crossing, just the vee) so I can at least get started whilst I improve on vee building- otherwise I can see me never getting anywhere. Any opinions?

Its the main stand, Peter should have a good stock of all the track parts with him

They had a reasonable stock of parts at the recent St Albans show.

I got what I wanted.

You should have said hello, I helped out Phil as he was concerned that he might have to assist another trader who had a slight problem.

The small stand was at the Astolat show at Guildford a couple of weeks back and had quite a range of stock and an interesting mixture of point kits in three different gauges for one scale plus one gauge for another scale.  In view of past comments about what they do or don't take to shows I was quite impressed - but then they did have exactly what I was after ;)

They post deadlines for orders for the shows they are going to attend on their website http://www.finescale.org.uk

You've missed that for the Stafford show I'm afraid, plus they are having Broadband difficulties (also outlined on their site news), which will obviously impinge on their email orders.

Like all retailers they go to make money, therefore they try and have enough stock to satisfy demand. Sometimes if there has been added demand then towards the end of a  show they might get a bit short on some items. So especially if you want some exotic item or just a large order, use the pre order system the week before. I try (especially with rail) and buy enough items to get me through to the next show, so after St Albans it has to last to Alley Pally, then Railex followed by Expo at Aylesbury
