Lydney Loco Shed Allocations.

Recommended Posts

This is an enquiry for some information, but I wasn't sure whether to put it here or not.

With reference to GWR Journal no.20 and the article about the '2021' class by John Copsey he gives the allocation for 1st Jan 1901 as:

2023,2024,2025,2026,2029,2031,2032,2038,2039,2040,2041,2043,2045,2053,2059,2079,2080,2082,2084.

And states:
'The concentration at Lydney represented almost the entire allocation to the shed [only a single '1813' class engine was resident there],and heralded an association that was to last fifty years with the '2021' as the dominant class.'

My questions are - which '1813' class was it,and what type of tanks was it carrying at the time, and how long was it there?

I have the Wild Swan book for the 1921 allocations and there are no '1813's at Lydney then.

I haven't got the RCTS book on the GWR six-coupled tanks which I presume may include the information,so I was wondering if any forum members could help?

The RCTS books are not particularly good on specific allocations. In fact there is only a small paragraph for the 1813 (though plenty on the alteration, withdrawn dates, etc)

Nothing in the 1934 Wild Swan allocation list either.

I can only confirm that there were none allocated to Gloucester (Lydney was a sub shed) in 1922 and none were withdrawn from there. I can't find any reference to 1813's in the Wild Swan books.
