Mystery signalboxes

Recommended Posts

I've been sorting through some old photos and came across the following pictures of signalboxes.

The problem  is any notes I may have kept are long gone. So can I appeal to the collective knowledge of RMweb to identify the following. As far as I know all were taken some time  after 1993.

Scotland 1

Scotland 2

Scotland 3

Nottingham area. (I stumbled on this one whilst trying to find Nottingham exhibition by dead reckoning and vague memories of a map)

And finally somwhere in the Stoke area. Possibly Longport. Can anyone confirm this?

Thank you good people.

Having looked at the known photos I have, I think the little un might be on the Stranraer route but I can't be sure. Stranraer box was in the same role of film.

The last one is very like Ford. But the pic that I have found of Ford has the staircase at the near end (where you would expect it given that there is a level crossing), and an outhouse at the top of the stairs.

Could be that your photo is more recent as the staircase is clearly modern.

Edit: NOT Ford. Hipped roof. But at least we can say (?) that it is an LBSC box.

Box still exists as a training box at the back of the former Leicester Power Box.

Thank you Andy. Confirmed by the power of the web

That would make sense as I recall a family holiday in the Dumfries area as a change from heading to the Highlands.

Just that last one then . I'm beginning to doubt if it is down south  as there is a distinct lack of third rail in the photo and I would have expected to see the end of it just before / after the crossing.

I suspect it was taken around about the mid 90s.

Not any more I'm afraid, disappeared around autumn last year, it seems the training compound has been/is being cleared.

My signalling guru suggests its been preserved and may of moved to Rushden.
