Poor Old Bruce
I have just been reading the review of the Tube Wagon in Model Rail. It states in the text that the wheelbase is 18'6" (confirmed by the diagram on the Barrowmore site) but the photos of the model clearly show that the review sample is marked 16'8". This has apparently been missed by the reviewer. Has anybody else noticed this?
Fat Controller
It might even be prototypical; dyslexic wagon painters were not unknown..
Pint of Adnams
Errors in painting are not unknown. There is an apocryphal story/urban myth of a wagon painter at Temple Mills (Stratford) who was applying numbers to a recently-built batch. He started at one end applying successive numbers and then, having completed numbering them all on one side, turned around to the other side of the last wagon and started the numbering again from the beginning. Errors in records and drawings are not unknown either, that's what makes research both fun and frustrating.

All sorts of errors came to light during the transfer of wagon details onto TOPS - the most common being the difference between painted numbers on the opposite sides of a wagon and the painted numbers being different from the number on the plates. There was at least one instance of a vehicle having four different numbers - two different numbers on the plates and two different (again) painted numbers - and none of them being correct for the wagon diagram number list!
