Focalplane
A few photos taken on a visit in the summer of 1976 to Switzerland when I lived in Singapore. The weather was not good and I really didn't know what I was taking photos of. The main line photos would have been taken north of the entrance to the St. Gotthard Tunnel. Any help in recognizing the locations would be wonderful!
eastwestdivide
The three red ones (01-03) look very much like the Göschenen to Andermatt line, just to the S of Göschenen itself. Photo no. 04 appears to be the N end of Göschenen station.
Mike at C&M
Photos 1 to 3 are of the (then) Furka-Oberalp Bahn descending from Andermatt into Goschenen station. This is the final part of the descent into Goschenen. Photo 4 is indeed the north end of Goschenen station with an Re6/6 heading a passenger train. The entrance to the Gotthard tunnel will be behind the first coach. Note the green livery of the day, rather different to the colourful ones we see at present. Photos 5 and 6 are at Erstfeld, the station at the bottom of the north ramp of the Gotthard Pass. Here there is a large depot which provides pilot and banking locos for trains climbing up the pass - more relevant than now. Photo 5 is of steam loco No.2978, which was plinthed for many years within the depot. Photo 6 is the Ae8/14 No.11801 (I believe). part of the national collection of preserved electric locos, and it may still be passed for main line running today.
