Quarryscapes
Well I thought I'd give it a go as FUD Wagon bodies are expensive! FUD is definitely worth the extra, the finish was awful on the ends and inside and it was distinctly bowed. That said however, a very quick clean up on the ends and a coat of grey has improved matters: It's a shame about the severe loss of detail on the floor, as I really like the texture on the sides. billbedford
I would have sent that one back.
Quarryscapes
That's part of the reason they're retiring that material, too many people sending models back!
billbedford
I very much doubt it. The whole exercise looks to me as it they are updating their machines and the new ones just don't do FD.
SpoorObjecten
Quarryscapes is right! All printers we have can run FD,FUD,FXD Even the new machines we have Why are we getting rid of FD? *FD is very hard to produce!*It uses 3-4X times as much support material. The support material ends up costing twice as much as the part itself! Cleaning off all of that support is time consuming, and the cause for many breakages. There's also no way to recycle that support, it just gets thrown away. (note: this means that FD costs us actually more than printing FUD)*FD crashes about 1.5X as much as FUD, making it hard for us to ship on time.*FUD is a much more reliable and consistent material, and better for models and most other use cases. Pricing Pricing materials is incredibly hard, and we put a huge amount of effort into setting the right prices and sticking to them. When prices change, it's hard for everyone: makers, shop owners and shoppers. Much like with WSF, we set FD prices when we had a lot less experience with this material and didn't fully understand the cost or difficulty of manufacturing it.As we've made more of it, it's become obvious that fully enclosing parts in support material the way that FD uses lots of expensive support material, makes them hard to clean and likely to break, and causes the machines to crash a lot more than with FUD. We've worked on a lot of ways to address these issues, including better cleaning techniques and other machine modes such as HS-HD. Unfortunately we've been unable to find a workable solution, and are stuck with a difficult to product and disappointing product. If we were to set the price of FD high enough to cover these challenges, it would be a lot more expensive than FUD - a material we all agree is better.
