shortliner
oooo, now thats a challenge, I have designed a O scale layout that folded out and fitted in the boot of a Toyota MR2 Mk1, but maybe that's for another thread Go for it! Always interesting to see what can be done in small spaces!
mason
I might take up that challenge too. What i am building for Gordon is tight

Gordy
Go for it! Always interesting to see what can be done in small spaces! Ok here you go, its a tri-fold layout designed to fold and fit in the boot of a mk1 toyota MR2, witha 57"long cassette FY which goes behind the headrests in the passenger compartment. The layout either goes on a table at a show or you have no passenger and the legs go on the passenger seat. Stock goes in the spare wheel compartment and their is just room in the boot for the electronics to go in with the scenic section.
mason
I think I'd like to try this in 00 Gordon, do you think it would work out ok??

Gordy
Just noticed ive left a point over a baseboard joint but you could move in back 2cm and it will be fine
DanielB
I like that little track plan there Gordy, how long is it in O scale, I can't really work it out.
Gordy
The O version is 2.1m but it was designed to fold up so it was 90cm long when not in use
RhBBob
Just noticed ive left a point over a baseboard joint but you could move in back 2cm and it will be fine I always used to enjoy 'splitting' a point over a baseboard joint - it produced some wonderful expressions at exhibitions

Gordy
Update from Neil, ground work has started ready for ballast there's a hint there of the level of detail Neil includes in his layouts if you look at the Coal Yard. A big box arrived from the US today as well so hopefully get a picture of what was in it for you soon.
mason
Really loving the build Gordon, lots more details to come More importantly What's in the box???
Gordy
Heres what was in the box, a sunset RDC 2. got to say not impressed, no instructions, packaging shocking (2 axles knocked out of bogies) and one motor bogie not wired up. Not buying of these Cowboys again. But lovely model haha

Gordy
just found a great website with tons of info on the Danbury Branch http://www.danburybranchstudy.com/html-study_docs/study_docs.html
Gordy
Big box of goodies arrived from the US today, 3 weaver RS3's and an Atlas SW1200RS. bit bashed in shipping but a bit of glue should fix it. Two of the RS3s are very old weaver and have delrin drive to one of the bogies neither of them are able to move themselves, the gears are turning freely but the motors don't seem to be working very efficiently. They both have Pitman Motors. Anyone else had similar problems? any advice to get them fixed? Do I replace the motors?
Colin Stewart
Thats a nice collection of locos, re the weaver chain drive, you might have a cracked gear on the gear tower. The pitman motors should be OK. P&D Hobbyshop in the US has spares for this drive and they are more than happy to ship to the UK www.pdhobbyshop.com Colin
GWR88
This looks stunning Gordy but I can't look for too long or I may be converted to O scale! I really like the details that have been added around the garage to help create a more lifelike scene. All the best, Lloyd
Gordy
Thank Colin, i am going to take them to bits at the weekend and see what i need
Gordy
sorry Lloyd but heres some pictures from the other end of the layout as the area around the factory and the Depot come alive. The small fenced field will be a pumpkin patch and then theres a nice shot of the Depot in situ and some of the factory yard complete with piggback ramp. Theres also a sneaky picture of the coal yard added. Remember HO guys this is only 8'x3' with two 4'x1' fiddle yards so technically its an O scale 8'x4' layout. GP9u
Thank Colin, i am going to take them to bits at the weekend and see what i need Hi Gordy, I have been guided by the guru of all things Weaver/P&D drive, Bob Sobol. His work on the A&O loco fleet is legendary! http://bobsobol.smugmug.com/Trains/Model/PD-Drive-Train-Work/13070993_jHWP6R#!i=947018664&k=jxLWMHq I have used all his re-gearing, drive chain optimization and pickup methods and they work really well. I stocked up on P&D drive components at Chicago. But I used to order from P&D when I was back in Engand and the service was great. if you're really stuck for a gear or UJ helmet right now, I bet JasonD can find you one to tide you over... Pete M. P.S. It was great to meet you at Ted Schnepf's. Loving your new layout!
Gordy
Thanks Pete I am glad your loving the layout, although its a bit small compared to Ted's. I have had clearance to go to Chicago next Spring so I will hopefully see you at the show and Ted's again. I thought i knew what I needed but there's loads of stuff I am now wishing I had got, to be fair though probably didn't have the room in my bag. Re the Locos they wont even pull themselves along, yet all the gears seem to move freely. I am a bit stumped so I will take them completely to bits and see if its anything obvious. The Layout is at its first Model Railway show July 25/26 somewhere in Stoke so I need to get some locos working and chipped by then. I am contemplating fitting smoke units as well but am not sure yet. G
