Merfyn Jones
Three former BEA Bedford ASS articulated buses with 49 seat trailers were bought by B R in 1966 for use at Parkston Quay, from the station to the ship. I would be grateful for any information, especially that illusive photograph Merf.

RMweb Premium uax6 Posted May 10, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 10, 2015 There's even a model: http://www.aviationretaildirect.com/models/sc231-sky-classics-airport-vehicles-1-200-bedford-j5-articulated-bus-bea-red-white/ And a cracking shot towards the bottom of this page too. http://www.mikesbuspages.com/oddsends.htm Were they painted in BR blue? Merfyn Jones
Thanks Andy G The first link just took me to Viscount aircraft. The link to mikesbus photos has one of the later Bedford TJ which were very similar to he ASS. The model looks good, shame it's 1/200 scale BR blue ? well I wish I knew, the Freightliner terminal lorries used yellow with a red stripe. Merf. Found the one with the Viscount, yes that's one of the Bedford ASS. In British Airport Authority livery when new.

stewartingram
I can remember riding on one of those artics, on the guided tour around Heathrow, must have been late 50's? I don't recognise the place now. Stewart
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 12, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 12, 2015 I also remember riding on one, late 70's in Luqa airport Malta. By then the Bedford J type tractive units had been replaced by Bedford TK's.
Fat Controller
There were some similar looking vehicles used at John Summer's Shotton Steelworks. There were some shots of them on the BBC documentary about the plant, which seems to have disappeared from their site. A 'modern' version of the same concept can be seen in Havana, with tractor units pulling buses based on low-loader chassis- the centre portion may be double-decked.
