RMweb Gold Rannoch Moor Posted November 5, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 5, 2012 Flubrush asked me (as a near local) to take some detail phots of this wonderful and well maintained station building. It has always shouted railway atmosphere to me at least - the very epitome of what a county town's station should be. The photos were all taken yesterday on a cycle out from my home in Helensburgh and are all taken from the down (ie westbound towards Helensburgh) platform. Both station buildings appear near identical to each other and on each building each face and end are identical in style to that opposite. (For example, each bay window matches and faces that on the opposite platform as well as on ther opposite side of the building). Anyway, here are some detail phots of the canopies: Please note that the longitudinal lattice beeams are vwery gently arced along their bottom edges - very graceful but a bug&%r to modelI suspect! Now some detail shots of doors and windows etc - note that it is 5'9 (my head height!) from the ground to the door window cross frame. Finally, an attempted I Phone panorama of the up platform building starting at the Glasgow end and working west: ...as well as some various other snaps I thought might prove useful to Jim and anyone else who fancies taking this one on! Cheers, Gus

airighdrishaig
Agree Dumbarton Central is a fine place but last L & D station? Surely that is Dumbarton East?
Strathyre
Dumbarton East still exists as a station but its buildings don't - they were demolished in the early 80s unfortunately.
iankemp
Here is a picture of Dumbarton Central with the line running in to the "ORIGINAL" platform 1 Here is a picture of Dumbarton East before the demolition of the buildings and the line down to the goods yard as well as the small shed for the loco's. I have got a lot more pictures of both Dumbarton East as well as Central stations i have found oer the last few years so i could get ideas of which to build in model form!
