I agree I think they bent them to fit into the packaging. They would not be used as a fore ground pice of scenic product but might be handy set back.

FYI

I think the lights look very similar to those on Oak Common (of course they are dummies so don't give light), and neither do the bollards.

I probably would have not bought this pack if i knew what it actually was. As Kal prefers me to only source working lights etc. But as I have them, I intend to use them.

For some reason they made me think of the Beetle and Abbey Road, wrong kit, of course. Still it's another reference that I will keep at the back of my mind.

Trees...

Just bought today, from local Florist, it is called,.....Semtex,..Stemtex, very thin florists tape, for doing, buttonhole flowers.

See pics below....

The products are fairly tidy, but with the use of a small file. I removed any excess metal, and re-inforced the shape of the individual stone, where you see the shiny metal you are seeing where I filed.

This should be done with a small file (wives nail file would work) Be very CAREFUL to not remove any of the detailing, better a slightly rough item than lose invaluable details.

On my pack the holes needed filing out carefully too, do not over enlarge the hole other wise the other parts of the kits e.g. bollards will not sit in tight.

Checking one against the other is probably the safest way to get this right.

The planter (well I hope that is what they are) are a bit rough and ready, the metal obviously failed to get properly into the mild OR if someone has already tidied these they went a bit far.

Regardless, I will be popping green fluff over the edges and hide this.

The bollard have some fine (be rely visible) detail so be careful.....

The two lamps on the left (i.e. curved) is how the the lamps cmd, the one on the right is one I straightened, I warmed it up in my hands, but I have heard warm water is a good way.

I also hold the lamp carefully whilst filing it so as to not damage the main stem. So these are the bits I removed from my pack.

I believe popping them in warm metal is a safer way.

Hmmmm........don't think so........it would melt them anyway....... :jester:

Great modelling BTW, loving the willow and be interesting to see what can be done with the knightwing bits...

These floating ones were made of polystyrene to float on the river as a joke at Reading, I believe there are few more about at the moment due to the heavy floods.

I've been trying to link to the picture of the submarine fin heading down a Reading street, but the site doesn't like the image extension!

Perhaps these might help?

Sometimes ideas just don't pan out.....as you would like them......

Take one brand new model.....

med_gallery_17883_3114_278293.jpgrmweb745car11

use the new artists masking....

med_gallery_17883_3114_459540.jpgrmweb744car10

It is white and goes clear....very hard to work out where you have actually put it. (HumbrolMaskol being bright purple certainly has an advantage here.)

Hand paint.....

med_gallery_17883_3114_350835.jpgrmweb742cars8

And remove the mask.....

med_gallery_17883_3114_145941.jpgrmweb741car7

About now I'm thinking....would have been better free hand.

Still there is more than one way to skin a cat.....here kitty kitty.......

The other side..... free hand...much better

med_gallery_17883_3114_492403.jpg

just about to change to the smallest paint 'brush'

med_gallery_17883_3114_266358.jpgrmweb739car5

Back to the ugly side...........

After scraping some of the masking stuff off.....a quick freehand repaint commences

The back end

med_gallery_17883_3114_72947.jpgrmweb740car6

The front end

med_gallery_17883_3114_396159.jpgrmweb738car4

At present there is two distinct sides. The freehand which is not too bad, and the masked one that was hopeless. (The next time I'll try Maskol - the purple being easier to see what you are getting.)

Slowly I am getting back to a model that should not just be thrown in the bin.

I admit I got in a bit of a panic, and should have let the paint dry, then added some Humbrol Maskol to the windows,

But I carried on free hand , and got some on the windows, which I then had to T-cut.

Next I must plan ahead....let each job dry even though it is much slower.

It has been left to dry overbite....but this is where I was last night.....

The front looks worse than it is, I tidied this up successfully with T cut and some very fine cotton buds.

med_gallery_17883_3114_55504.jpgrmweb749car12

To date the back is the most successful

med_gallery_17883_3114_191108.jpgrmweb737car3

The back end I have overpainted the car colour with the wood colour. I still need to check for any more masking fluid.

med_gallery_17883_3114_205515.jpgrmweb736car2

This side where I put no masking is much cleaner.

med_gallery_17883_3114_62864.jpgrmweb735car1

When I get a chance today to sit down and spend some undisturbed time on it... I will continue the rescue job.

Lesson learn, plan carefully.....don't wing it.....until the next time

The windows are a little cloudy after the T cut, but by wetting them they clear nicely, I understand their is several ways to sort this issue, I just dampened the window with a wet cotton bud. Once it dries it will go cloudy again.
