Ron Ron Ron
Some information relating to Sanda Kan Industrial (###### Guan) Co, LTD and its origins. [### is site censorship does not like this word D_O_N_G ] http://www.atlasrr.com/News/mrting.htm http://www.trolleyville.com/tv/times/may2008/headline04.html Thanks for those links. Most of the info about Sanda Kan I've read about before, but that's an interesting story about Wai Shing Ting. It would be interesting to find a good article covering life under the J P Morgan related company(s), where all the problems began. I've read bits and pieces about it and it doesn't sound like a pretty tale, despite starting out with high hopes...... http://boards.fool.co.uk/this-is-courtesy-of-dublo-over-on-the-iii-board--9176919.aspx?sort=username But the reality was typical of the way the banks and hedge funds were doing business before the crash of 2007. Here's a quote from one article on the subject.... "Sanda Kan has a long history as a model railroad supplier. Unfortunately, it was acquired some years back in a leveraged buyout by an Asian subsidiary of JP Morgan Chase. As happens with most leveraged buyouts, the company was immediately loaded down with debt incurred by the acquisition and crippled by, to be quite honest, what has come to be the standard American method of producing profitability: cutting staff. The owners cut the most expensive employees, who happened to also be the ones who were the most experienced and knowledgeable. Without the skills those people represented, Sanda Kan began running into difficulties with quality and deliveries. Finally, the company went into receivership. Enter Kader Holdings, parent company of Bachmann Industries......" .
edcayton
Extremely interesting reading for me, I had no knowledge of the Sanda Kan arrangements before, and can see why Hornby are in trouble now. Ed edited for speeling
Ozexpatriate
The article on Wai Shing Ting has been linked here on RMweb before, but it's nice to have it brought up for people who may have missed it the first time. It would be interesting to find a good article covering life under the J P Morgan related company(s), where all the problems began. But the reality was typical of the way the banks and hedge funds were doing business before the crash of 2007. Thanks for pointing that out. It is exactly the way the banks and hedge funds (were) acting up through 2008 with the credit implosion. There's been many a well-run and profitable company destroyed by such practices in the last ten years or so. There's plenty of books about the crash - if you've the stomach for them. G-BOAF
So thanks to ideot bankers not paying attention to detail and technicalities of a company's structure, us model railway enthusiasts are having to put up with reduced detail and corners cut. Just another reason why experts are need in key positions. We are well and truly in a world of mediocrity
Pandora
Hornby need to move sideways, there is a shortage of manufacturing capacity for models, but not a shortage of electronics assembly plants, Hornby go looking for DCC, DCC is just chips and circuit boards, there are plenty of places you can get those made, even Britain, the Sony plant in Wales makes the Raspberry Pi and that has sold 1 million plus

Pandora
True it does cost a lot of ££££ to write a software programme, bit once you have recovered those ££££ on sales after that point, the software programme is virtually "zero cost"
