  1. Hi All,

Does anyone know the difference between the MK2d, MK2e and MK2f coaches (1st and 2nd class). I have searched the internet but can't find any info on this (maybe there aren't any differences!! :banghead: ).

I am looking to know whether there are any underframe / body detail differences, and interior differences as I would like to make my Graham farish examples as accurate as possible for my Cornish N scale layout. Also, what was the interior colour scheme for these blue/grey examples running during the 80's in Cornwall?

Lots of questions, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

    Best regards,

    Jeremy

  2. Hi Matt,

2D-002-002 50040 'Leviathan' BR Large Logo Blue (refurbished)

2D-002-003 50037 'Illustrious' Original NSE (refurbished)

And there will be, in coming months a few special editions announced for a third party too.

    cheers

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

It's probably a bit early to say, but are there any estimated timescales for delivery on these?

    Best regards,

    Jeremy

  3. Waiting for the 3D prints of the rail grinder and dummy tamper to arrive (tamper due tomorrow), I decided I wanted to make a display base for them to sit on. With those 'corner of an airfield' bases you see aircraft kits displayed on in mind, a few bits of spare track, some Shapeways textures and a rummage in my bits box, and I came up with this.

Very simple, low detail, and really just to act as a background for the models to sit on for photographs.

Look out for updates on the (not quite prototypical) dummy tamper test over the weekend. I'm intrigued to see whether all the fine detail around the tamping equipment has come out.

Looks great David!! Looking forward to seeing your new projects displayed on it! Love the Farish Midland Pullman lurking in the background of both your pictures!!

  4. Hi,

Only just discovered this layout thread. What a great idea, a kind of "what would have been if" layout. I worked in Preston Park for a number of years so know the area well.

Looks great so far and looking forward to seeing more!

    Best regards,

    Jeremy

  5. Thanks Steve!

Now finished the decking and added the smaller platforms on each post. There is alot squeezed into a small space on this signal! Just the finials to make up now and it's finished.

    Tom.

Stunning work Tom! Looking forward to seeing it in place on the layout. I may have missed this earlier on in the thread, but will the signal be operated electrically?

    Best regards,

    Jeremy

  6. Re wheeling might require as much work as replacement frames/wheels/gears etc, or it might be possible to get the wheels reprofiled with the back to back increased if you are lucky, or anywhere in between. The minimum amount of work required for conversion of a steam locomotive is usually dictated by the wheel/axle materials/construction and the chassis assembly.

The easiest option would be to have the wheels reprofiled, however this has been known to fail. Even this would not be a quick option as you would still need to take the loco's to bits then rebuild them. With all the valve gear this is not a simple task.

The best option would be a new chassis but that would be a scratch job.

Thanks guys for your advice. I'll see if I can get the wheels reprofiled first then if that fails, have a bash at a scratchbuilt chassis. However I have never done this before so will be a challenge for me.

  7. They would run on the plain easitrac but if you have any thoughts of 2fs pointwork then they will need rewheeling - Not an easy job with those locos.

Thanks Kris. Is it more of a long job to replace the wheels? Or is it just really tricky?

  8. Hi eveyone,

Just a quick question. Does anyone know if the Dapol A3/A4 and Farish A1 will require rewheeling to run on easitrac. I am just contemplating dipping my feet into 2FS and building a very small test track with a motive power shed based on East Coast operations late 50's. (alongside building my long term cornish N scale layout! I must be mad! :derisive:)

    Best regards,

    Jeremy

  9. Got my 56013. Looks great and ready for some china clay action! Have just ordered depot plaques and arrows from Shawplan today to finish her off as she was when she visited Cornwall. Also need to change the buffers to oval ones as these had been fitted at this point as per the photo's in John Vaughan's book, "An illustrated history of the Cornish Main Line".

A fine model though, well done Dapol! Not sure if I'll bother changing the bodyside grill though...

  10. Nice Pics Jeremy - thanks for sharing them.

Those EWS 66's are growing on me...and I do like the FGW livery.

Hope you bagged a Dapol FGW 153? Mine arrived today...

Haven't got a FGW 153 yet, but I have got a FGW 57 which was resprayed for me. Looks a bit out of place amongst by BR blue liveried locos but the livery is growing on me too.

  11. Good afternoon all.

Had a week's holiday down in Devon last week and I couldn't resist heading down my favourite station to capture a bit of cornish action on camera. I decided to get down to Par early in order to photograph the down "beds" heading for Penzance.

Here are some of my pictures.

57602 "Restormel Castle" on the Penzance sleeper just after 6:30am.

Shortly after 7am, a 66 arrived in the island platform from St Blazey, ran round its load and headed down towards possibly Burngullow (I would assume) some 20 minutes later.

A selection of early morning Glasgow and Penzance bound voyagers and Paddington bound expresses also arrived.

Also had the pleasure of spotting 2 more China clay workings. All before 10:30am!! The first one took me by surprise as I was standing on the road bridge at the time, so I "legged it" down to the platform to grab a nice picture!

And finally, the 9:17am Newquay bound local pair of class 153 and a Penzance bound stopper.

All in all, a fun few hours first thing in the morning. Well worth getting up at 4:30am in the morning to make the trip down there!!

  12. Going back to the 1980s, here are 3 shots I have found, with a bit of freight action,

these were taken from the foot crossing between Par & St. Blazey.

Great photos Rivercider!! Need to find some way of getting those ferry vans in N scale for my layout.

  13. Hi Jack,

I visited Par during July 2010 and took quite a few pictures. Here are some of mine.

  14. I'm certain that someone does a set of whitemetal castings for Class 50 jumpers - have you tried TPM? For the cables themselves I would use black EZ Line - from Model Junction in Slugh.

    Alan

Thanks guys. Will check out TPM's website.
