  1. Actually might be interesting to do using the caller car system to see what the reaction was.
  2. Or air freshener, used to use a can a week when I worked in a model shop
  3. How about in an old metal framed (frame on the outside) backpack, it'd be very suited to a swiss mountain railway. just exhibit your son / daughter's first layout, or better still, the Hornby track mat with Hornby ready to place buildings plonked on top.
  4. imageshack.us is free, however you have no control over the images after you've uploaded them.
  5. persuits are monitered from a central, for the area, command centre who will tell the officers in the car if they should back off or even call off the persuit, the favoured tactic is to get a hellicopter above, back the persuit vehicle off and let the copter do the chasing, as it can't be seen if it keeps itself away but viewing on cam, it can keep track while not pressuring the criminals in the car, often resulting in them slowing down, however many continue driving at high speed regardless of police presence
  6. I've chosen to switch to using a thread to show the development of Milliedale as I've seen the way that the majority of people use the forum a thread means I will get input and feedback from a wider number of people in a way that is easier for me to view when checking in from cattle class on first great western while on the way to work. I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed and commented on my random waffling here and invite you to continue in the thread http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/51959-milliedale-yorkshire-market-town-terminus-in-n-gauge/page__fromsearch__1 as such, i'll only be updating the thread, not the blog from now on.
  7. if you're wanting the crane to be held on the layout when using it but removable is it possible to fit some magnets to locate it, a set embedded into the 'concrete' pad and a set on the bottom of the crane?
  8. I'd love an n gauge Audi Quatro in red for when I get round to doing an inner city 80's layout, just stick it sideways in the road chasing an escort/transit/capri/triumph A deliorien with and without modifications? Re-create movie scenes perhaps
  9. Stephen, spring removed so that there is less stress on the wire in tube, seemed a good idea at the time, hoping it continues to be so. Rich, thanks for that, might still be out on saturday morning, just in a tidier state. won't be out on saturday afternoon.
  10. Well, it's been a while since I posted anything of substance on here beyond sporadic updates, so here we go: As you, hopefully, can see, most of the track is laid, the one part to be done now is the banking down to the canal wharf, although this requires a little bit of packing to raise the trackbed up slightly above quayside but mainly to make the gradient a little less severe. still deciding how long the goods shed line ought to extend through the shed, also need to install droppers and power it up - however I have had my Black 5 make its way up, wrong road (less points to cross since the mechanicals for the rod in tube haven't been made so the points are a bit floppy since I've removed the springs) by holding wires to the rails. Hope to have a video up of a loco (probably black 5 again) making its way up and back sometime next week, then control pannels to make and wiring to finish.
  11. something like this for coaching stock in the train? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Graham-Farish-N-Gauge-Shredded-Wheat-Coaches-/180809722013?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item2a1919689d
  12. so, to balast before spraying track muck or after?

I always spray the rail sides, then spray sleeper crud from above, ballast, let it dry then apply a grimy wash to everything (with more for spots where locos stand) then clean rail tops.

so I can spray to get a coat onto the rail side and sleepers, then balast and give a light coat to tone the balast down and get more muck onto the rail sides?

  13. You also find it in a dark green colour quite often if it's the industrial fencing I'm thinking of?
  14. is that yard shunter actually green anymore? looks great, both the loco and layout
  15. The main focus lately has been to get the canal and it's cobble paths so that the bridge can be fitted in place. the bridge has been fitted and weathered (found my old airbrush and quite happy with the results using model mates weathering spray through it) and track has been laid across it. Peco points have been modified by removing the spring so that wire in tube point control can be used, I now need to make some under board parts to do this. I've also had a bit of a play with making cassettes, with some success, until it fell apart!
  16. Alexandra Palace (asin, the London exhibition centre venue) specifically, the alexandra palace model railway show
  17. Cross street, and indeed Ring Road remind me of driving into wakefield down the A61, over the Calder and under the railway bridges, the railway is, track wise, much the same over the bridges, but with one through line removed and the goods yard gone, as such I can imagine Cross street's railway being much the same, without the OHLE and the station without it's huge billboard, as you say when asking about a modern Frankland, it's the buildings around it, the modern offices perhaps giving way to a traditional department store as I don't think the impressive hotel would have been built across the road from a grubby textile mill.
  18. Brilliant, I think I can follow that route, the wife is out attempting to aquire some flux for me today.
  19. Been following with interest, just wondering if the crane ought to have a brace running from the top of the 'spire' towards the counter weight like the one running forwards towards the jib? the earlier crane looked, to me, like the kind that have been used to build coventry university's new student centre, the cables to support the jib running up, over and down the back to counter weights at the base of the crane, making it smaller and easier to transport, but only capable of lifting smaller loads.
  20. however, they will be easier to fit to ready to run stock. still trying to figure out how to fit DG's to my stock without making it impossible to revert to 'standard' at a later date...
  21. I need to learn to make chassis in order to make myself a pug!
  22. no wonder I don't get asked for ID in pubs anymore if I look as old as Rich!!!
  23. Loves the fact his little diesel car sounds a bit like a 37 when it starts from cold :)

    1. NGT6 1315

      NGT6 1315

I bet you'd like to have an actual 37 prime mover in it :-D ...

My grandson points a my diesel car and says "Tractor"

    3. richbrummitt

      richbrummitt

      and he'd be right ;)

  24. I'd love to model a layout similar to Cross street, but BR blue so I'd be needing: 08, 55, 37, 43 and some coaches
  25. They werent aware of that! They said they were due a Dapol delivery! Is a non NEM version planned? Just been given a few older farish models for my birthday and would want to convert them too.
