  1. Well it’s happened, I’ve finally got me erse in gear and started another project. This time I’m going for a caley class 19 0-4-4. I did consider using a triang m7 as a basis like I did with my 419. But this time I’m tryin a scratch build. I may yet use the m7 but I set to last night at my local club with a plan a scalpel and some plasticard and made a start. Managed to get the basic shape just about right with some filling and sanding required.

  3. Very nice to see your k2/2 progress, I’m even more tempted to try the kit for myself. It’ll make a nice comparison with my nu cast one which is now nearly finished.
  4. Apologies, I’ve not been ont web as regularly as normal. Your k2 really is looking really good. I might have a go at the kit as it certainly looks a lot finer than the nu cast version. Yeah my k2 is nearly there. It’s now in black undercoat and I’m just awaiting lining transfers and numbers and name etc so it’s not far away.
  5. Ohh very nice, just came across this thread. I never realised London road did a k2, every day is a school day. I recently got hold of a nu cast k2/2 for only £30 which is ok but a tad chunky, having said that it’s got plenty pulling power being white metal. Very nice indeed I look forward to seeing the finished article.
  6. Very nice indeed, just what I need to complete Loch Garry.
  7. Hmm perhaps a Hornby older style b12 chassis as this has equally spaced axles, and it wouldn’t be hard to graft cylinders and motion onto this as I did it for a peppercorn a2 a while back. Not the same thing I know but the idea would be he same. I’m at my work just now but I can have a look at the spare chassis I have lying around and fiddle around with it and get back to you. Gary P
  8. Thanks Tony, for many years I have wanted to build a Loch, and djh did produce a kit, but this has been out of production for many years. And when the kits do come up, they are going for stupid prices. So I looked around to see what was similar, the Adams radial has a similar front end with the boiler and frame being similar. The loco is the correct length and with etc. The only main compromise being the driving wheels. Although this isn’t too obvious as they are half hidden.
  9. Oh it’s nice to come back into this thread after an enforced break from the hobby as a whole. I remember seeing this at St. Andrews many moons ago and spending a good while watching it. For me it was all the more interesting, being in winter and I’ve seen plenty of “winter” layouts but they are all snow and nothing else but. It’s nice to see another take on it. Now a pic of my latest creation, with a question. I have all but completed a conversion of an Oxford Adams radial into an ex Highland Railway Loch Garry in lms crimson lake. The question is, would anyone on here know if anyone does, did, or has any suitable letters to make up the name of the loco. I’ve had a look at Fox’s page. I’ve seen that they do the names for the original Highland names, but not the later lms lettering. Could anyone offer any suggestions.... Gary P
  10. Well apart from the name and come coal, that’s my Loch Garry complete, and posed next to Glen Garry.
  11. Very nice to come back on rmweb and see many nice pics as per usual. I only wish my home station still had what it has on here. I’m told the srps was originally going to preserve the Haddington branch which would have been nice as I live 500 yards from Longniddry station. gary
  12. Sorry I have just had a think about this and, off the top of my head....what about a Hornby southern s15 4-6-0 chassis?
  13. My latest project all but completed. Needing only coal, a driver and some smaller parts adding to finish it. 14387 Loch Garry in lms crimson lake.
  14. Thanks for the information on Loch Garry. I thinks it’s going to have to be a case of just ignoring the toolbox as it’s built as part of the tender, and if I removed it there would be a large gap. So I’ll just leave it as is.
  15. I think I’m going to have to plump for the fox transfers, as they’re the only ones for highland loco’s. The ‘but’ being that they only do them for highland livery loco’s. This I may have to live with.
  16. Ahh, I hadn’t actually hadn’t noticed that Loch Garry didn’t have the tender box, I just went with the drawing of the jones goods tender in my book of highland loco’s. I think I’ll line it but need some more cream lining as I used all of the lining in my transfer sheet to do the loco and tender. Also the frames still need lining out also.
  17. Well that’s my Loch’s lining all but done, save for some minor corrections that may be needed, I’m not sure about the tender lining as I don’t have any photographs of a Loch from the rear, so I’ve used a bit of guesstimating for this lining. I used hmrs pressfix transfers for the lot including the crests and names. I did consider having a go with a bow pen that I recently got hold of but I chickened out. just the name on the splashers to sort out now, well that and fireman and coal. But no weathering (for a change)
  18. Well I simply google searched a car paint to match lms crimson and that’s the first one which came up. To my eye it looks good enough for what I want. the lining will go on next, but this is one loco that I am going to try to resist the temptation to weather (famous last words) gary
  19. Here is another update on my Loch, the loco has had the primer rubbed down and two coats of both crimson (Vauxhall burgundy red) and satin black everywhere else. The cab interior is getting there, just needs some tidying up and spectacle glazing adding. Also converted to left hand drive not right, simply put this involves moving the reverser which I’d forgotten about.
  20. I have posted pics of my latest project elsewhere on rmweb but I thought id post it here too, in a complete change for me I decided to make myself a highland railway loch, using an Oxford Adams radial as a starting point. It is getting there as the main parts are all there and the loco is now in primer and, soon to be sprayed the correct livery.
  21. Very nice indeed, I’ve just came across this, having not had much time to get on here lately, I was thinking of kitbashing a Hornby 700, as I have done to make a nbr j37 but, now I will have to get one of these when they are ready. Very good a shot of my j37 made from a Hornby 700 below.
