Whilst very pleased that at long last a R-T-R model of the Leader is being produced, I agree with the above suggestion that it would good for some of the models to carry numbers other than 36001. I too have just ordered a grey version. I would have ordered another in black with a number of 36002, but sadly it appears that it will not be made. More than the basic frames for 36002 + 36003 existed. As mentioned in Kevin Robertson's book 'The Leader Project', when the construction of Leaders 36002 & 36003 was halted, 36002 was only two days away from being ready for steaming. Judging by the pictures of 36003, it looked to be in a fairly advance state of construction. Thus one would only have to bend history a very little to be able to run 36001 and 36002 at the same time, and then run 36003 with some additional bending. It would be great if KR Models could reconsider their numbering strategy and, at the very least, produce 36002 alongside 36001.

There are other non-council car parks nearby, but they may have their own charging structures.

I missed last year's exhibition due to a really vicious bug, so I’m doubly looking forward to it this year and seeing some more excellent layouts.

Rather late in the day I know, but the full line-up is now available on our website at: http://www.rdrms.com/exhibitions.html There are 19 layouts, with 12 being in response to the 40" challenge - it should be one of our best shows, so do try and pay it a visit if you can. Do feel free to have a chat and pick club members' brains - lets hope those who attend the show leave having been inspired, if only in a minor way.

The latest news is that there will be ten 40" inch challenge layouts at the show and I hope to have more information on the website shortly. One of the builders has been taking pictures of their layout as work progresses and they will be added to the website in due course. There are several council owed and private car parks within a few minutes walk, including one at the Crosfield Hall where the exhibition is held - but arrive early on the Saturday as they tend to be filled by shoppers. On the Sunday, parking in council car parks is free - but not in private car parks owned by shops such as Aldi, so make certain you know in whose car park you are before walking away without paying. Another good car park to use, a few more minutes walk away, is at the Romsey Rapids swimming pool. Just for clarification - the End of the Line which will be appearing at the show is a different layout that happens to go by the same name. Like all layouts, it is never finished and its owner has informed me that some more has been done to it since the pictures that appear in the link were taken.

All is not lost. The exhibition has been rescheduled for the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of June. The line-up will most probably change a little, as it is unrealistic to expect all exhibitors and traders to be available on the new dates. The website's exhibition page will be updated as soon as more details become available, so please visit every once in a while to see the latest information.

On the up-side, I get to have the weekend off now. It is, of course, very frustrating to have cancel at almost the last minute after all of the hard work that had been done behind the scenes to organise the exhibition and also disappointing for exihibitors, traders and those who were intending to visit. Fingers crossed that the weather improves and the Basingstoke show will be unaffected next weekend. Two club members' layouts will be there - End of the Line and Wheal Kate. Every so often Romsey & District Railway Modellers Society hold an open day - nowhere near as fancy as the annual March exhibitions, just a selection of club and members' layouts - some complete and others still work in progress. Besides chatting to our members, discovering what we do and picking our brains; do feel free to bring along any locomotives or stock that you would like to see running - you may even be able to have a go on some of the layouts at their owner's discretion. This year, our open day will take place as a part of the Romsey Festival of Arts on Saturday 1 July 2017 from 10.30 a.m to 4.30 p.m. in the town centre at the Abbey United Reformed Church Hall, The Abbey, Romsey, SO51 8EL All you need to know about traveling to the event can be found here. The exact line-up has yet to be confirmed, however there will be several narrow gauge, 4mm and 2mm layouts present including: Hirson Bellveue Melcombe Abbas North Waltham Junction (one of our club's new layouts, which will be making its first outing) Oakwood Penzance (another of our club's new layouts) The Manifold and High Peak Light Railway Treyford C u m Didling Wheal Kate Entrance is free, although there will be a charity bucket collection for those would like to donate the odd coin. Just a little over a day to go now - Moretonhampstead is loaded in the car ready to be taken to the show at stupid o'clock on Saturday morning.

Just a week to go now.................. There has been a slight change to the line-up - Shillingford has been withdrawn, but has been replaced by Moretonhampstead and Modbury Torr. In the light of the recent Grenfell Tower tragedy the show profits will be split between Hampshire & IOW Air Ambulance and the Grenfell Tower Appeal.

The Ninth Minstead Model Railway Exhibition Will take place at: Minstead Village Hall Minstead, near Lyndhurst, Hampshire SO43 7FX On Saturday 24th June 2017 OPENING TIMES: 10am-16:30pm ADMISSION: Adults £4.00 Concessions £3.00 Children £3.00 Family £11.00 Minstead is situated in the New Forest just south of junction 1 on the M27. Modbury Torr - 3mm BR Devon branch line. 14. Pikes Pits - 12mm Narrow gauge Isle of Purbeck clay industrial railway.​ 15. Portsoton Bus Depot - 1/76 fictitious Southampton bus depot and stabling yard for two-car electric trains diorama. 16.
