I will admit I only have recently have begun looking into Woodhead Route, but it has been a route I have known about vaguely, being born in 1985, am I right in thinking the line had already closed?
Hi
Yes the line closed in 1981.

Thankyou everyone for your feedback - all very much appreciated
MrSimon:
The finest Microstrip I have is 010 x 040, the retailers I've used don't sell anything finer.
Do you or does anyone else know where to buy anything finer? 010 x 020, or 010 x 010 perhaps?
Mark
Hi
Slaters do 010 x 020 but the only 010 x 010 I have seen has been 010 diameter rod.
I used the 010 thou rod to create the ribs on the top of this wagon.

Hi Paul,
I've got the pack somewhere but not applied any yet - its in storage with the rest of my possessions so I can't check the number! Do the yellow lines go on ok?
Thanks
Simon
Hi
Yes they go on well with an application of Micro Set and Micro Sol. Forgot to look last night for the ref number.
Reference number is 2757

Hi Justin, The TPSW grids are from TPM set 1002; I've not opened the packet yet but the etch looks really good I had lots of problems masking the ribs on the clam so what I've started doing is painting the whole side yellow and then drawing a fine pencil line accross the wagon where the yellow stops and then with a fine brush and thinned paint painting up to the line:
The one on the right isn't finished (probably not even started because I went back through all my clams and moved house halfway through) and shows the pencil line. The one on the left isn't a very good example of a finished one (and might not be one) they all need transfers putting on! The model master transfer sheet for the clams has yellow lines on but I've not tried them yet - in my head the line doesn't look long enough to go round the ribs but I'm sure it is!
Simon
Hi
Modelmaster do transfers for the Clams including the Yellow line but off hand I can't remember the sheet number. I can check tonight if no-one beats me to it.

Hi
I remember seeing a WR HST set at Rotherham Masborough on whats called the old road which bypassed Sheffield in the late 70s and from memory the set was 253017.
Would this have been part of the same trial?

Hi All;
My 86241 arrived safely this morning from C&M Models...so thanks Mike!!
A quick once over and it looks ok...previous postings ref the pan & flexicoil duly noted. The supplied Shawplan nameplates look very good too.
Will get it lubricated and on to the test track a little later after some domesticness has taken place!!!
Later;
STU from EGDL
Hi
Mine too has arrived and it is a wonderful model. I am very pleased with mine, which runs beautifully. The flexicoil suspension doesn't actually look as bad in the flesh as it did in the photos. Looking forward hopefully to 86235 in the 150th celebrations livery.

Have to say that I'm so impressed by what I've seen on here and read on other websites that I'm going to be spending some money on these. Wasn't planning on modelling AC electrics, but with a catenary system (ok, the poles) and nice DCC friendly and well detailed models, I'm putting OO on hold and joining the n gauge mob for a micro layout. Interesting times.
All I'll say is Dapols effort looks a lot better than the mess and lost opportunity that Heljan have with their effort. Well done.
Hi
Apart from the pantograph the other thing that lets the Dapol 86 down for me is the Flexicoil springs on the bogie. They arn't big enough the ones on the older Farish 87 look much better although not perfect.
Compare the image in Model Rail of the Heljan and Dapol 86s in this area to see what I mean.

Good afternoon all,
Just picked up this thread after some weeks without 'RMWebbing'!
Had to add comment about how desperate the pictures of the line post closure are! I lived in the Midlands until about 1995 and managed quite a few trips to the Woodhead Line in the early 1980's when the Class 76's were in their final years. It always seemed to rain when we visited Torside so have only a couple of what I would call 'useable' pictures! Have a few more at Guide Bridge and the pictures posted from here really depressed me!!
Even post the 76's era Guide Bridge was a hive of activity and really worth a couple of hours stop. The photo of the station is particularly depressing!! Goodness knows what it's like now.
I'll try and dig out a few pics. and scan them in, but it really is so depressing to see what has disappeared!!
This must be an age thing as I move through my fifties as got thoroughly depressed during Easter during a very short visit to Teignmouth - last time I was there was 1985 ...!

Hi
I would be interested in any pictures anyone may have of Godley Junction and the nearby Brookfold sidings that may help me in my quest to build a representation of this location. Progress so far can be viewed here

Hi Michael,
Thanks for that, I had no idea, seen the 4mm one and was jealous! Could you drop me some more info and have you any thoughts about a chassis for the beast, think I might stop work on my plasticard project now!
Hi
I have a couple of Michael's kits and they are very nicely etched and fit together very well for the part I have built. The sticking point for me now is the chassis and I have come to the conclusion that it will have to be a scratch built one as I can't find anything suitable that would fit. I measured the Kato shorty chassis I have in my Tamper but it was too high for the Harton electric.
They are very small locomotives in N or 2mm.

Really looking forward to the 86s arriving..........Having waited years for a proper one to be released (my fave AC class) Mind you i have a couple of 87s with ISM class 86 ends but i think they will give way to the new Dapol ones
The thing i really like about them is that (hopefully) after reading the review on Nigel Burkins site is that they will be released without nameplates fitted - this makes it easier for re-numbering.
My livery wish list is
IC Swallow (Black cab windows) get the paint out.....
IC Swallow with full yellow ends (86206 would be nice but 213 being produced)
IC Exec (86248 would be nice)
Speedlink (866xx)
RFD (86608 etc)
Freigtliner grey (Being produced)
RES (Being produced)
I shall have to study my phots befour getting on with re-numbering etc as remember some of the 86s later on were fitted with the high speed Bracknell willis pan 86207 City of Litchfield in IC is on my list, this has a BW pan fitted.......
Any Ltd edt's on the cards?? I know the blue pair (204 / 241 for C&M) But im sure some of the one off liverys may be popular for early WCML modellers or even Great eastern
86214, 86235 (Rail 150)
86426 Electric Blue (but a mock up by BR as blue was to dark aparently)
86245 (1998 Caledonian Blue / Virgin Trains)
86233 Electric Blue 2002?? Virgin (actually the last class 86 to work a Virgin passenger service in Sept 2003)
And proberly everyones fave...............86401 NSE
86501 Freighliner green, A good one as always runs on its on with liners
These are just some of my (hopefulls) But im sure you guys on here may have your own.................Cheers, Anthony
Hi
I would like to see 86235 Novelty with the 150 celebration marking but I don't think it would come out too well in 1/148.

Tiz no easier in 7mm, here's double trouble!! see below. I used a different chassis on all three

Hi
The problems mentioned in this thread are a few of the reasons I avoided these when I built my N gauge ones. Mine are by no means perfect but are a lot easier to build as the body is a one piece resin casting. Not a lot of use though if you want 4mm or 7mm versions.
I have noticed that JLTRT have a 7mm 76 on their list is this any better than the MSL one or did JLTRT buy the MSL kit rights? I ask as I quite like the idea of having a pair of 76s in 7mm scale just to sit on the shelf.

These things are shiny and therefore even more difficult to smuggle into the house when the Mrs is around. If anyone has any suggestions (other than getting the weathered ones) I'd appreciate it
*Gribble*
Hi
How about being open and honest with your wife. I never have any problems with my railway purchases and I don't have to hide anything.

It may be of use and interest to know that there will be special Demonstration on modelling the 1500V dc Woodhead system at this year's NOTTINGHAM East Midlands EXHIBITION. This will cover building EM1s (Class 76s) and the OHLE. This will be a taster for one of the themes at next year's show, where there will be Woodhead layouts in 0 Gauge, 00 Gauge and N Gauge ! For anyone with even just a passing interest in the Woodhead line, this will be the place to be. Come along to see us !
In addition, there will be at least two Trade Exhibitors selling LEDs
Hi
Would have like to have come to that but unfortunately it is my sons eighteen that week end so I am not available. I have however made a note for the exhibition next year.
Cheers

Today has seen me offically start the kit & although the instructions are a pig of thing i have managed to get the model going & the etchs are some of the best i've worked with evrything falls into place without the need of fettling which is great
The biggest problam i face really is a fight with the instructions i feel that they need re writting with more detail regaurding the lourves. It says in the instructions that the lourves are all done a certain way but with one set being different to the rest ( lourve 4 ) the problam i face is their is no reference to which lourve 4 is & also it doesnt state in what sequence the lourves go on the body once ready.
I don't think it will be a real problam though because MSL are brilliant at helping you out i have found so far so i think a email will clear up this issue. I was worried about the lourves because they looked fiddly to say the least & they are very small details but i must admit the first one has started & their has been no real problams with the kit its been superbly designed.
I'm still working nights & today has been the first day i have felt i could squeeze a little bit of concentration into starting the kit but i shall persist with the first lourve get it finished before i head off for a 10 hour slog All being well i should have this one finished today i have taken a photo of the progress which i shall post tomorrow once i have finished the first lourve.
The body although is pre folded needs to be just finished a little to get a slight curve in the bodywork as the prototype, i can't do this until my piece of stainless 8mm round bar arrive's because i am going to get this one right & have a perfectly finished class 76.
More to follow.
Simon.
Hi
I would be interested to see the results as the MSL kits I have seen made up don't look quite right around the rear of the cab and the join to the bodywork. They seem too flat.

looks very nice but.... if i'm not mistaken that weathering is on a black (non chrome) sample model. How will the weathering 'key' to a chromed barrel? will the weathering be able to stand the rigors of exhibition life? If it can, great but if it can't, it's going to look a little shabby.
FWIW I think this model has a great future inpact on the hobby but maybe it needs to come out in chrome as a newish example, dull silver as a used example and filthy as a prototypical recent example, just a thought....
Hi
According to the Dapol website the wagon was supplied finished in Chrome but without the decorations (markings).

Hi
I'm waiting for the EM1. I've promised myself one as I always liked the idea of a 7mm scale model.
