  1. The Barrage in question is the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon. A giant white elephant which hopefully will never get off the ground. In fact it has ended up in the High Court:

All types of Renewables are really Subsidy Farms for there owners. When the Subsidies stop. So will the use of Renewables. You have to ask yourself why are we closing Reliable Coal Fired Power Stations. When the rest of the world is rushing to build them:

  2. You may be interested in these two videos of Gwaun Cae Gurwen Loading Point. This sends a Train nearly every weekday to Onllywn. The first video shows the first EWS train into GCG for loading. With footage of it being loaded as a added bonus. The second shows a trial with HTA Hoppers earlier this year instead of the usual MEA's

  3. Briton Ferry Yard which for years, has been allowed to become overgrown. Has suddenly had a major tidying up. All the small bushes and trees have been removed and the grass cut right down. So much so you can now see the rails again.

Would this have anything to do with the coming Electrification, with the yard being used as a base for the work trains. Or would Colas be looking at utilising the yard for its Baglan Bay Operations?

  4. Hi Guys

Tata were looking at loading coils in Port Talbot Docks. At the moment they are loading Twenty Ton steels Slabs instead. Incidentally this is the second time this year. That, Tata have loaded slab in the old Dock.

Long term thinking is to build either a new loading terminal in Port Talbot Docks, where the old Iron Ore terminal was or build a new wharf in the deep harbour. This would cater for Coils and Slabs.

I will try and find out where the Coils in Cardiff docks are off to. Last year we moved a couple of thousand tons worth of coils to Cardiff

    Docks, bound for Argentina.

  5. Hi Neil

Just discovered your thread. A great plan which I will watch with interest.

Just to go back to your question on why you would push a train back towards the buffers once the loco had run round. One reason would be is, if you needed to lengthen the train either with an extra coach or to add a van or two. You would be able to strengthen the train quickly without any fuss and without any further shunting of the train as it's being loaded or unloaded.

  6. Detail inside the scrapyard. The crusher is scratch built body on an Airfix tank transporter trailer chassis. The shears is scratch built from plasticard. There are 504 individual cubes of cooking foil. Comments were made that scrap was too shiny but it seems these days the demand is so high that it does not stay in the yard long enough to get really rusty after being crushed but any details re workings of such a yardvarevwelcomed.

Great Thread and layout, can't believe I've missed it until now.

On the Scrap Cubes, I would say that they should be dirty, but not rusty and very smelly! They wouldn't be sat around for long as you mention as their is high demand for this type of scrap. Have I mentioned the smell, there very smelly!
