  1. Passenger services were withdrawn on the W&U 2 January 1928 and the carriages moved to the Kelvedon & Tollesbury branch. The first J70s went to Ipswich and Yarmouth Vauxall to work the dock lines. Wisbech lost its allocation when diesels took over in 1953. Colchester had a single allocation to work Hythe Quay, which was the last of the class (68226) and interestingly, some photos taken at Colchester in BR days show members of the class with side skirts and in other photos, without.

     

    However, for the majority of the class and working life of the class, they pulled wagons, not carriages.

    My point is it would be nice having the coach with it, especially as I'd have built a kit by now if the D&S ones didn't go for a fortune every time they came up second hand.

This is a tough one from what I've read and my own personal feelings regarding the NRM's collection of engines that will probably never go mainline; when the North Staff New L was bequeathed to the Foxfield I was rather pleased, as since being in the NRM's collection since the 90's it was seemed to jsut have been left in a corner to be gather dust and not really be noticed, especially with the transfer to Locomotion, with the Foxfield it will be overhauled and will more then likely become the jewel in their crown so to speak.

     

    Th T3's a little more difficult to judge, being an engine that whilst not at the forefront of the collection was always rather noticeable alongside the likes of the D17, Midland Compound, SECR D and even Mallard for that matter.  The engine's going to a railway which from what I can tell has very little covered storage to cater for it, and whilst I would love nothing more then solid plans for an inspection to see how difficult a task it would be to get a gem of the Victorian and Edwardian era to steam again, I want to know that the Swanage and NRM have thought this through more then just dumping what the NRM considers by this point an "extra" to a railway they think can handle it.

It always depends with pre-grouping engines, I myself as a modeller of pre-BR can understand why some things will just never end up being made!  This hobby is based around nostalgia.  I'm certainly glad tho that we have what we do, never would have dreamed of owning an rtr Ivatt Atlantic, or a GCR liveried J11.

     

    The C and the E4 situation is certainly an odd one, the SECR liveries flew off the shelves for one reason or another, but they all did sell within a reasonable timeframe.  The E4's have just stagnated, along with some of the BR liveried C's.  Maybe because the preserved C is more noticed then the E4 currently?  Not sure on that one.

  4. I wouldn't expect box openers to see the relevance if they have never opened kits. The choice is everyone's. No one is forced to buy this Toad.

    Of course there does seem to be the elitist attitude towards building kits on here...!

     

    If people want the model to be right, then they have the right to voice their concerns, and at the same time, if people want to build a kit then they will.

     

    So technically no one's being forced to build a kit either are they?

  5. Agree.  Pictured here has been an EP of the class without mods and retaining bogie brakes.

     

    That suggests pre-WW1.

     

    No such model has been announced.

     

    Bachmann is, then, to some extent, keeping its options open, but if and when a production version of this early condition is to be released, who can tell.

     

    Might some gentle lobbying/expressions of interest in an 'as built' H2 be a good idea?  I will add an email to Bachmann on this to my 'to do' list.  Perhaps others could consider doing so? 

    It's more likely it will be a Collector's Club model, same thing happened with the J11, there was an EP that had original boiler fittings (which meant GCR condition) but wasn't announced in the main range; it promptly appeared in the Collector's Club.

Alright, the seperate trailing truck I get, but an extra driving wheel?  Is the middle driver flange less or is something going to go horribly wrong at some point with these ala LMS Garratt?  Personally I see why people have bought them (the smoke, light features and sound ad up for a very unique model, even by most DCC models in recent years), but is it really better then the Hornby A4 aside from a load of gimmicks?

    Atm I'm limited to a spray can and simply use Tamiya's red oxide primer!  If I can find a color available in Canada that works with that or hand brushing then all the better, specific colors are impossible to get with the shipping ban on flamables.  This was abit of a test bed to see whether or not I could go about a Gresley conversion as I wanted more then Hornby offer.  An early example I painted is this Chivers Pigeon van.

  8. It's been confirmed by someone at Bachmann UK that they can't use the tooling for a model of Talyllyn as the tools are restricted by the license agreement to just Skarloey. Seems HIT are really tightening up on their wording after the Junior range. Still it's an easy conversion thanks to the Narrow Planet kit and Daniels transfers :)

    I find this abit ridiculous to say the least and am going to have to ask for proof.  If this were true it would apply to other prototypes, Stepney for instance, there having being numerous models of this Terrier made without a face?

     

    Skarloey would not have been made just for Skarloey, it would never justify the sales by itself as he is a rather obscure character, it would have originally been made with Talyllyn in mind and Skarloey simply hitting 2 birds with one stone, and the same goes for Rheneas and Dolgoch.

    So far not in the case of the narrow gauge range, at least Skarloey is, as I mentioned earlier in this topic, to my joy modeled after the real Talyllyn, not after one of his TV counterparts.

     

    He actually is modeled after the TVS counterpart, but the current series which is CGI.  For the CGI Skarloey engines the actual Talyllyn engines were 3D scanned for the show and as a result are fully accurate.

  10. The thing I'm not understanding with Hornby's choice of LNER livery, is the fact that on Hatton's it's listed as "Lined Black".  From what I know none of the B12/3's ever recieved the lined black before the war, they were all lined green...!

  11. Just held Gordon in my hand, advantage of being a retailer, and examined the tender. Motor is definitely in there driving two axles with traction tyres diagonally opposite each other. There is an 8 pin socket in there to. Loco remains unchanged. I asked why they didn't use railroad loco chassis for the Thomas Gordon as it is the same as the flying scotsman. This question was met with silence and topic moved back onto new tender motor.

    I am safe to assume this is the cherry on the cake then?  Absolutely ridiculous, it feels like so many corners have been cut just so they can keep the licence!

  12. Bachmann's models are 100% accurate, to the TV series.

     

    The Hornby models have never been accurate to anything, simply being modifications to existing tooling to get a very rough representation of the characters, the only character in the range that was even tooled up new at the time was Percy..!
