Who's bright idea was it to paint the roof of a DMU white? (SWR livery on a 158)

The original SWT livery had a white roof and one 159 carried it for a long time The rest were painted grey.

True, was usually kept much cleaner though

BR's I think - some of the first were Class 165s over 20 years ago (and of course the GWR in the 1930s).
