  1. 37423 ambles into Meanach with an early evening speedlink bound for Mossend. July 88.
  2. Inspirational stuff. Your work and layout really throw me back to my days bashing the marches and north west in the late 80s , early 90s . How did you do the drop light cab window on the blue tractor btw ?
  3. I've just read the entire thread . Very enjoyable and educational . Some outstanding work with many locos I remember having for haulage featured .
  4. I shall post some more on my profile page rather than clog up this directory list. : )
  5. Thanks . Its very nice to receive praise from the people behind my 2 favorite inspirational layouts (along with Loch Dour). I can take some more , certainly!
  6. My own stay at home effort. MEANACH. Set on the proposed but never built Tulloch to highland main line freight link. Set around 10 miles east of the west highland line, Meanach is a typical island passing loop. Mainly freight with 4 passenger trains per day.
  7. I've just started from way back in 09. That's one way to kill a couple of hours on a night shift on the railway ; ) . Excellent and truly brings back memories of my bashing days in the late 80s and early 90s along the north Wales Coast .
  8. 26023 with modified lights (thanks Martin Normanton) deputising for a failed tractor on last nights 17.12 to Inverness.
  9. The station is nearly complete now having at last had its stairway handrails fitted . Just waiting suitable Scotrail font station name boards.
  10. I haven't posted for some time but the layout has come on leaps and bounds . Anybody like to see more then ill pop some more on later.
  11. Bachmann SWD fitted class 37s 262 and 417 thrash away from Meanach station.

    Tractors ahoy!

37114 seen on the approach to the west of the station and 37240 thrashing its way up the bank and into the gorge.

Hi, really enjoyed seeing the layout in the flesh on Saturday . Would of loved to of seen Sunday's 80s tractors thrash up the bank too! What's the signal box constructed from? It looks alot like corrour . Ian
  14. Hi and thankyou. Quite simple really , woodland scenics rock moulds cut up and rearanged slightly , filled and glued with no nails.. Painted with games work shop acrylics and washes.
  15. Thanks. Some info : oo gauge smp track with marcway turnouts operated by dcc concepts slow motion motors. The track is all jointed 60ft sections with finescale brass fish plates .control is by prodigy dcc. All locos are detailed and sound chipped and mainly renumbered to locos i had haulage with and / or worked the area. Meanach is very much work in progress . Once it's a bit more complete I will take some better pics instead of just off the mobile.
  16. 37114 seen at the opposite end to the other views of Meanach on the station approach.

    Welcome to Meanach

Hi all. Firstly thanks for the positive feedback. This is the first layout I have built since 1991 when i was 16! It is only 1/3rd built at the moment. It is almost a circle , 12ft with 2 x 6 foot sides leading into 2 (unbuilt) fiddle yards . The majority of the track is down but scenically only the river (with bridge) , gradient and gorge and stream are near to being finished. It has an island platform with loco spur and a small timber yard with head shunt. It's set October - early november 1987 or 88. It features class 26s working timber towards Perth as well as 37/4s handling speedlink and the odd passenger .
  18. 26035 working 2P14 Tulloch - Perth School train. Welcome to Meanach. A lonely passing place set half way between Tulloch on the West highland line and Newtonmore on the central highland main line. A proposed route for mainly freight traffic that in this parallel universe was opened in 1905. A hamlet dominated by high hills and the perthshire mountains amid ferocious rivers with the sound of EE Type 3s slipping on the heavy gradients either side of the island station.
  19. Superb layout. Read the whole thread and love the pics. Funny to see some of the fleet (404,407,423) that comes thru meanach (half way between tulloch and Newtonmore 87-88) getting about doon yer way. Just wish I had that space as meanach is only 12ftt with 2 x 5 foot L sections leading to fiddle yard. Have you built a mk1 or mk2 micro buffet yet?

I am in the process of constructing the line between tulloch and Newtonmore also set 87-88 . Love the look of the tractors and also the station yard is a perfect rendition.
