The Claimant challenges the decision as unlawful on five grounds:
iv) The ORR’s decision was a disproportionate interference with the Claimant’s right to the protection of property under Article 1, Protocol 1 of the European Convention on Human Rights,
That made me chuckle. Using the ECHR to protect yourself against 'elf and safety gone mad'.
Daily Mail readers will be very confused.

Tippex is quite good as a filler for small/shallow gaps.

The Southern going green may have been simply an attempt at unifying the appearance of electrified and non- electrified services/routes.
It's also a single colour (OK, two if you count the black ends) and needs no lining. So slightly cheaper.
And one Mk1 coach did (eventually) get the imitation teak finish - http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1218. I always thought it looked a bit odd.

Don't try identifying the signal cabin - it was built for the production!
And is in a very strange location (on a bit of single line).

It seems to be on every Christmas. It is very good.

Electrostar - not even available in kit form AFAIK.
CMAC models do kits for the Electrostars.

In its day the Night ferry was the heaviest express in the country - 10+ heavy CIWL sleepers, plus SR coaches and SNCF vans - in steam days needing a L1 and a WC/BB to shift it. So I'm not sure if a 1400hp class 70 would be able to keep to time.

Smelting on site is most likely - disused lead mines often come with the remains of a smelter (with the long flue to a remote chimney to get rid of the toxic fumes).

You also need to add the qualifier 'standard gauge' to that.
Plenty of heritage 3rd electric trains on the Volks railway.

We need more politicians like John Knott - who tell interviewers they are talking rubbish and walk out.

Note the 'Rushton and Hornsby' misprint. Was somebody listening to 'I'm sorry I haven't a clue' as they typed the list?

There used to be a multi-discipline model show at Epsom Race Course, and closer to home, a much smaller one at a school in Tadley, organised by the local air cadets, I think. Back then, the school swimming pool was still viable and I saw my first R/C submarine in it.
Large muliti-discipline model exhibitions are popular in the rest of Europe, I have been to ones in Belgium and Germany. The one in Stuttgart had one hall just for indoor R/C aircraft flying, while the one in Gent had a huge pile of soil dumped in the middle of one hall, which was 'terra-formed' into roads, bridges and quarries by a small army of R/C vehicles.
And the Model Engineer exhibition at Wembley and later the Ally Pally, which covered pretty much every kind of modelling including model railways. The description of the NEC show sounds as though somebody had tried to copy it.

So what other goodies are in that catalogue?
I recently picked up a kit for 1500 (the prototype refurbished 4-CEP with sliding windows) that I had no idea MTK had produced.

That said, personally I find the whole idea of fully locked carriages, be that by modern technology or analogue physical key, something I don't like. Accidents are rare but locked carriages have led to fatalities in past accidents. It doesn't stop me riding on trains but the use of physical keys and bolts isn't something I am particularly comfortable with when I do and notice it as with the obvious key/slide bolt lockings.
I seem to remember a few train fires where people couldn't get out because the doors were locked - this is the nastiest one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Versailles_rail_accident

Slightly off-topic but . . .
Where do some of the narrow gauge and miniature railways stand with regard to CDL?
Whilst I doubt many will reach 25mph, several lack doors by using chains across doorways and the presence of semi open sides in lieu of windows and, possibly, some limitations on lineside hedge trimming, present a not completely different situations.
The Ffestiniog locks you in to their compartment carriages before departure. I have a vague memory that some of the other Welsh NG railways do this as well - there are a lot of limited clearances from cutting sides etc.

I also used to like Peterborough but I understand that's now a housing estate (or on it's way to being).
I wondered what had happened to that show. It was always a pretty decent day out.

Exactly. The gauge 1 live steam layout is probably the biggest one you'll see on the exhibition circuit, so i don;t know how people can complain about the lack of 'large layouts'.

It often seems to be the layouts with the most control equipment (half a ton of laptops and electronic gear) that seem to have the least movement.

Disappointed by Warley. Didn't get barged once or a hit by a rucksack in the face, and only encountered one mildly smelly person.
In fact the whole experience was quite pleasant (not counting the bits involving Cross Country Trains, who are as useless as ever).

With the National Trust even the 'country' costs as they try and keep cars away from the Peak District.
TBF it's because people park idiotically and they want less people up MamTor.
9 hours ago, melmerby said:It also happens in the Lakes. People wont pay (anything) to park, so block the country lanes with inconsiderately parked vehicles.
(Owners of big expensive vehicles are the worst)
There are free car parks in the Peak District, but they tend to be in the nice remote places rather than the bits that every man and his dog (with cycle perched on the roof) wants to go to for their 40 minutè walk or cycle ride.

Amateur. These days you need a wheelie suitcase full of locos to run people's feet over.

Surely the ownership is easy to prove - you just look at the plate screwed to the vehicle solebar saying who owns it and what the asset number is......

The loco that popped up when I clicked on the link had a square chimney! That's got to be a unique feature!?
Not for Belgium. A lot of Belpaire's locos (and railmotors) had square chimneys.

The lack of RTR Mk1s with external frames is I think one of the single biggest omissions in modelling as no-one (Kitmaster, Triang, Lima, Bachmann. Hornby) has ever comprehensively modelled these types, which ought to predominate for BR Blue Grey and later.
Next you'll be asking for them to model the air brake and ETH equipment on more recent Mk1s. And ends with no steps.....
8 minutes ago, stewartingram said:I'm sure I've seen these winow frames available from a "small supplied", etched I believe. Anyone else recall this?
Phoenix definitely do some etched ones as part of the range they inherited from NNK. No idea if they are accurate or designed to fit MTK coaches (which almost certainly aren't accurate)
The best approach I've seen is with some of the etched Southern Pride sides, which come with pre-cut vinyl frames to overlay on the brass. You can make these yourself using a Silhouette craft cutter - I've done these myself for the 4-BUF I'm slowly scratchbuilding.

E1 4-4-0
in UK Prototype Questions
Posted
The E1 has a 6" longer wheelbase than the D1 and is longer overall, and has various other differences. The DJH kit is for the E1.
Saying the kit can do both is a bit 1970s.
