No problem at atll @RedgateModels, admin are just starting to get ahead of the curve due to the amount of outstanding pre-orders (and age of some of them!) and get everything in place for arrival.

    Hi Fran

Just a quick question, I have ordered a number of Deltics, all at different times.  Will they all arrive in one large box or will they be sent separately?  I can see arguments for both ways but was just wondering if the 'admin' included collating orders from the same person.

    Thanks

Ah fair enough, seems strange their home page states "ONLINE MODEL SHOP" in big letters then!

I suspect that is just poorly worded, but may be designed to separate the physical and online shop for some reason.  I know that sometimes online discounts have to be asked for in the shop as they don't automatically reduce the prices for walk-in customers.

As a basic though, if you require visitors to have Covid passports or proof of vaccination , wouldn’t you expect this of exhibitors, traders and stewards who will be directly in contact with the public .If I’m speaking at close quarters to someone I want to know he/she has been as rigorous as I have.   I can appreciate that the rules are changing and may say something else , but surely it has to be the same for all otherwise Covid safety is compromised.

I am sure that exhibitors, traders etc. will have to comply with the same rules as visitors, possibly even tighter with LFD tests being required every day before attending.  The position in Scotland is changing all the time and what applies now will probably be different from what will apply  in 3 weeks time.  The SECC will set the requirements for exhibitors and visitors etc, based on the Scottish Government's advice at the time.  As a visitor, I will check the SECC's website before attending but I am sure that exhibitors etc. will be informed of what they have to do before arriving at the SECC.

Give the organizers a rest, they have a lot more important jobs to do apart from responding to enquiries about precautions which will probably be out of date before the show.

Seems odd an online only 'shop' has stock, wouldn't think they were tier 1 material...

Wonderland have a large physical shop in the centre of Edinburgh.

  5. The requirements for exhibitors and customers at events in the SECC will be set by the SECC.  Modelrail Scotland will have no say on what restrictions to apply, they can only pass on what the SECC's requirements are.  The full set of requirements for visitors can be found on the SECC website but those for exhibitors must be elsewhere.  I suspect that a negative LFD test by exhibitors on each day of the exhibition will be the minimum  but I don't know that for definite.  Precautions in Scotland are likely to be more stringent than in other parts of the UK.

Unless Hornby are planning to put them on sale from late spring I think its fair to say that its not too late to halt production.

I am not sure the would necessarily be the case.  Accurascale, who I am only using as an example because they give regular updates, put their Deltic into production in March 2021(newsletter dated 9 February 2021) and they are expecting it to be in the UK in mid-March 2022 (newsletter dated 30 December 2021).

Hornby may have a bit more sway over its production but I suspect that, even for a November delivery date, they must be at an advanced stage and it is probably too late to amend production schedules, due to the knock on effect on producers' other customers, without a significant delay in delivery.

How much lash is there on the vice?

I found that the movable face tended to lift as it mated with the fixed face.  However this was easily cured by putting a bend in the washer (bent using a pair of pliers and a bar) securing the movable face to the base.  This removed the slack and the faces now mate up exactly.  I've not used it for anything yet but it looks to be a useful tool, I succumbed and bought a second today.  Should be really useful for drilling oiling holes in propeller tubes (for boats).

    1. If the cars behind Max had been allowed to unlap themselves then there wouldn't have been time for a final racing lap so MM took the decision he did in order to allow a racing finish.

In that case, why didn't MM allow for a "racing finish" in Belgium?  2 laps behind the safety car with no overtaking.  Presumably "let them race" did not apply in that case.  Just to be clear, I agree that conditions were dangerous in Belgium but why was the race even started?  If that race had not taken place or if it was held on another date, the result would have been different.

  9. A CE mark will still be required if a model is to be exported to Europe.  Any separate UK testing requirements will effectively be additional unless an item is for sale only in the UK.

Roddy, have you got some pics you would be willing to share on here of the work you've done? I've also got a set of VT ones (see earlier pics in the thread), so would be interesting to see what improvements you've achieved.

Sorry I don't have any pictures and the coaches are packed away at the moment.  Basically all I did was reduce the size of the equipment boxes under the chassis so that the angle of the sides are better.  There was an explanation of how to do this earlier in this thread.  Apart from re-numbering, I did little else as my painting skills will never match those of the manufacturer.  Perhaps it is my eyesight but, at normal viewing distance, I can't really see most of the issues raised by others.

  11. With the latest versions from Oxford, at least the Virgin ones, the footboards and coupling springs are more securely fitted.  I have taken 7 apart so far to modify the chassis and even though I was fairly rough with them non of the coupling springs came off.  With earlier versions I had to remove the couplings before doing any work, as they would ping of when sanding, but, with the Virgin ones, I was unable to easily release the couplings so I left them in place without any problems.  Similarly, there were no loose footboards.  I didn't lose any screws but I kept them in a secure container.  I don't think the construction of these is any worse than other models.

  12. Hopefully the model will be released at the same time in order to capitalise on the free advertising in the run up to Christmas.  When are the train packs going to be available? ( rhetorical question).

Can anyone confirm when the Original livery / revised livery transition started / ended?

Sorry wrong thread, this one is about international shipping insurance and how to run a small model railway manufacturing company.

I'm surprised they haven't done any more yet, given the cost of the project (cue someone like Harburn commissioning a ltd ed ScotRail one...

Maybe this will be one for Model Rail Scotland, there is a precedent?

I've just ordered myself a copy of Nightwatch just so I can see for myself - I expect the book will be different and I hope I can get into it!

The book is very different, the TV series takes bits from a number of books and changes the characters significantly, for example Detritus is alive and well in the discworld book series.  That having been said, Nightwatch is one of my favourite books, so read and enjoy.
