When you go too far; yes.
I was asking why people continue to have faith when the track record is so poor ?

As long as post stay within forum rules then anyone is free to comment I’m afraid.
it all very strange, as I understand it DJ will accept new orders at the moment but potential customers are starved of information as its kept secret.
i think these crowdfunding projects have pretty much killed model railway crowdfunding.
Does DJ allow you to share what he’s said or are you not allowed ?

So 3 years after the project announcement we have a few CADS?
Crunch time then if he wants second payments shortly.....

I'm going to revisit the GWR Pannier as I totally agree with your comments.

Why so they insist on the number plate pits ?

With all this for and against on these DJM threads has any-one asked DJ why Hattons and Kernow have dispensed with his services I amazed that at least one crowd funder has not asked this question.
No one likes the cold hard truth perhaps ?

1) Too many announcements of new models
2) Too few models delivered
3) poor mechanism and running qualities of the J94
4) Failure of previous crowdfunding projects
5) Cock ups / delays / excuses / empty promises
if the J94 mechanism had been better (I have 3 from the 1st batch), I’d have jumped in with the 92 crowdfunding. As it is, I took the view to wait and see it on the shelves. If it is ever delivered and it’s as good as his marketing says it is, then I’ll still buy some.
whilst I’d love an APT, I do not perceive the risk of stumping up cash up front to be worthwhile (for me) and a full set would be my entire annual budget but I’d like to see the model made.
all of the above can be overcome with successful delivery of models that set new standards as per his promises.
Everything you said I totally agree with, which leads me to another open question:
Why after all those factual reasons, people will fall over themselves to stump up cash and shower support to DJ?
if he was Dave from Burnley with zero to little experience in the field he wouldn’t have last 15 minutes before being run out of town.
Is he riding the good name of his previous employer who at points has opening criticised and distanced himself from ?
The same firm who have really upped their game since the departure of DJ, you can’t have it both ways.

I know Dave doesn't post here any more but I do hope he reads this thread. In among the negative posts there is some constructive criticism but no indication that those making constructive remarks are communicating to Dave's e mail.
Even a one line post from Dave to confirm he is still on RMweb would be reassuring.
His profile says he’s not logged on since October 2018, that’s not to say he doesn’t have another account which he doesn’t use for viewing only.

Which was rather my point, although I can understand why some may question it. Personally for me it's another example of Dave being a bit too open - people will draw whatever conclusion they want, if he'd said he was going camping in Grimsby then people would be saying "ooh, the business is obviously struggling." He achieved little by telling us when he's visiting the Galapagos, the Caribbean, the Far East, whatever, and clearly for someone who is a divisive character it's used against him, which is a bit of a shame, we'd all like manufacturers to be more visible on here.
Why is DJ held in such low or high esteem though ?
I think the the worst thing he’s done is totally withdraw from this forum, ultimately it’ll lead to a much poorer outlook for his business long term, if indeed there is a long term.
He arrived with his matey matey approach, not supplier to customer relationship which we’re used to, over shared and now he’s facing this as a result mistrust, and suspicion.

Being a resident of Newport at the time I would often see upto 10 brand new 66s las through the station often going to Wembley for work on the West Coast upgrade.
i remember 66503/504/505 being stabled on Godfrey Road with 504 minus freightliner side brandings.

It’s crazy how time passes but remember it must also be about 19 years or so since the first Bluebirds arrived, it does seem like yesterday but a lot happens to weather these machines (and people!) in a couple of decades!
As long as the base shade is fairly good to start, it’s easy to change up or down the tone with a simple Matt varnish and wash of thinned paint to suit... it’s too new for me but it’d be nice to see someone tackling the present-day Freightliner 66/5 fleet, many of those that haven’t seen paint are in a shocking condition!
Its nice to see the “bluebirds” nickname used, I believe I attached the name to them back in 2001 I took some (poor) pictures of the first batch leaving Newport for London, I sent the pictures to Rail Express under the title “GBRF Bluebirds fly the nest” - bluebirds being “my” team, Cardiff City. Rail Express didn’t use my pictures but did use the nickname I made up, looks like it still hangs on to them.

I think it was more that a few people here have said "sod it, I'm only in for £30, I'm not paying any more now there's another option". If there are enough of them the project could falter, and if the funds have been spent it could be at the 'expense' (literally and figuratively) of those who continued to make payments in good faith.
We did the 'risks' of crowd funding to death, although it's still not been put to the test what happens if people try and reclaim large sums of money in the event of project failure.GW appears to exist here only to shout about how awful DJM are. Like the noisy drunk guy in the corner of the pub.
I don’t drink, I’m making an observation on what I’ve read, is disagreeing with the majority wrong ?

Skin ?
Have i invested ? No, thank goodness!
I dont want people to throw good money after bad as far as I can see and that logn quoted story illustrates the point well it’s a dead horse, but one that will limp on closer to the finish line before being put out of its misery by the vet.
I think the chap has traded on his previous job, if anyone else had rocked up with this lot they’d of been run out of town years ago !

I don't think it's a case of funders being allowed to "walk away" and be refunded. At best it'll be that if the entire project is cancelled you might get a refund. Personally I wouldn't expect to, and would actually rather not get it (I took the risk), as it would obviously leave DJM nursing all the losses, which could take him out of the game. I'd rather lose the deposit and keep the builder going as they might deliver novel things that otherwise money (alone) cannot buy.
You’d rather lose your hard earned money than a DJM lose money ?! You really do have a heart of gold, fancy funding scheme to build a 1:1 scale flying Scotsman ?!

I’m not sure whether the chap has the worse luck I’ve ever seen, is a really poor project manager or is just a plain dreamer flying round the world on other people’s money hoping they’ll forget they’ve actually paid him to produce something?
Quotes of woe do read like a eastenders storyline !
Personally I think he’s seriously unlucky and a really poor PM, the latter you have to worry about your investment as a result.

I do read this thread and feel a lot of displeasure and resentment, then read 'that other thread' and everyone is chomping at the bit ....
If this were a thread for my work, I'd be asking myself 'what's the point if this is what they think?' ....
I do understand that it has dragged far longer than originally anticipated.
There was a recent response to 'the other company's declaration' and comments made.
Al.
What an excuse that would be “I’ve cancelled the project because you lot aren’t grateful enough” lol
This Project HAS to produce something or it’ll be the end of what reputation and business the chap has left.

"Sorry, but I am genuinely concerned for you if you have firstly, had the time to compile such a list and secondly, worry about it?!"
Now who has too much time on their hands??
Im more worried about people who have given money over in good faith, and as have been quoted promised refunds if it all goes wrong but are still without a model some three years later!
if you read all that lot and still thought you’d see anything for your money your mad !
Id rather give my bank details to a Nigerian oil Prince !

£160 for a standard model is very good indeed, and £250 for a sound one as well - although a sound 92 would be equally archived by running the wife’s hover !

I’d of thought any new “announcement” would be met with a air of right oh sunshine, whatever. Rather than a wow, I can’t wait, take my cash !

I would suggest that DJ ignores all these comments, gets on with producing the Class 92 before Accurascale and then says 'ITS AVAILABLE' , an announcement stating it on the boat and we will have it in 6 weeks is the best way to shut people up!! If this does'nt happen then I assume the best man wins! Charlie
I think you’ve more chance of raising the Titanic, or breading unicorns than that happening.
