  1. Chris, "A North Lancashire Railway Album" (http://www.cumbrianrailways.org.uk/northlancs.php) is a good one. There's also a Dalesman book, "Railways Around Lancaster" but I'm not sure that'd be what you were looking for, and the only other one I can think of off the top of my head is "The 'Little' North Western Railway" by Martin Bairstow. Of the three, I'd recommend the CRA book. Regards, David
  2. I know the Royal Mail can be a bit slow sometimes, but didn't SMT stop in the 1990s?
  3. Lovely work, Allan - I particularly like the cobbles, got that 'just been raining' look to them.
  4. An excuse to pay a visit to Haworth tomorrow ... as if I need one!
  5. Are the Furness J1 and E1 ever likely to be available in N gauge please?
  6. I've used yellow dextrin in the past. Worked well, albeit that I'd imagine that like cascamite it could be difficult to remove.
  7. Picked up a Peco N Gauge Collet 0-6-0 in black and three cattle wagons for £70. Just tested the loco and it seems to be a good runner, so very pleased with that.
  8. First of the Furness Horse Box bodies painted and temporary roof attached - livery details are vague, but it's believed that they were painted ultramarine. I'm trying a new method of making the roof using 16mm wide, half-round, wooden moulding strip, trimmed to size to fit inside the shell mnd with a piece of 0.25mm styrene sheet glued on top using foam glue. Reasonably pleased with how its worked, but need to have another go with a slightly larger piece of styrene to get the right amount of overhang on either side of the body, and will then need to put another piece of 0.25mm sheet on top to get the thickness of the roof correct.
  9. Bodies for three Furness Railway Horse Boxes (1871 design) - all plasticard/strip construction with Scale Link mesh added. Photos of them are very rare (I've only seen two and both of those are from a distance) so the models are based on drawings and the London Road Models 4mm kit. Next job is to to clean them in an ultrasonic cleaner and then paint the insides. Chassis will be the 2mm 9'6" wheelbase version.

  11. South Eastern Finecast do a range of injection moulded sheets - http://www.sefinecast.co.uk/Building%20Materials/Building%20Materials.htm - available from various suppliers.
  12. I bought some tungsten from them a little while ago now and everything was fine. I also bought some copper tungsten granules on ebay, but they don't appear to be available at the moment.
  13. Received this morning and it doesn't disappoint. Only had time for a very quick flick through so far, but immediate highlights are the Tewkesbury Quay branch (i'd never realised that the front wall of the shed was blue brick as opposed to red brick for the rest of the walls) and some shots of the Midland goods yard at Gloucester,
  14. Now available to order - http://lightmoor.co.uk/view_book.php?ref=L8184&section=CatNew
  15. Ffestiniong Odyssey - https://narrowgaugeandindustrial.co.uk/products/festiniog-odyssey St Merryn - What we did, why, and how we did it - https://www.scalefour.org/publications/stmerryn
  16. One I've really been looking forward to. As it includes Aschurch to Upton, hopefully the Tewkesbury Quay line will feature as well.
  17. I feel a holiday in Somerset coming on next year.
  18. The Garstang and Knott End certainly had one - http://spellerweb.net/rhindex/UKRH/OtherRailways/Garstang.html - and there were a few narrow gauge lines that had them - Southwold, Leek & Manifold, Welshpool & Llanfiar ...
  19. The Coal Tank etches I had done might be a help with the Chopper Tank as well - still got a few left if you're interested. I like your choice for the Challenge by the way - a location I'd been thinking about as a possibiity before I plumped for somewhere else (which will remain a mystery just for the moment). Good luck!
  20. I went yesterday, and thought the standard of layouts was excellent. I was though a little disappointed with the trade side of things, albeit that I came away with a couple of additions to my library from Booklaw - my main gripe would be that they were a little bit lacking in materials for the scratchbuilder.
  21. Wonderful job, Nigel - love the finish. David
  22. Evergreen do a .005" sheet - https://eileensemporium.com/index.php?option=com_hikashop&ctrl=product&task=show&cid=135&name=evergreen-9009-white-sheet-0-005-3-pack&Itemid=189&category_pathway=1165
