  1. I forget what blue my S3 was, I loved it, but the paint really showed up light scratches too easily. Primer is better..... BDA height reduction, just got my track cutters out, trimmed off the "side skirts". Then I've filed the base down - it's almost flat now with pretty much all the deck detail gone. The bolsters can be taken out easily enough. Think I'm gonna leave it like that. 4 more boxes constructed, I'm giving it a rest now....
  2. So, I've primed the 3 I had been working on: Built another one: Painted 3 in day glo DBS red: Wibble. Rivet. Rivet Strangely, I do like building these. 5 years ago I would never have thought to build my own. One thing I must do is finish this project off and not leave it part done, hanging around.....
  3. I'll second that on the 68. The wheels are particularly good.
  4. 500 brake.... I like the sound of that.....and lighter too.... genius.... Box 3 - 75% complete tonight. Best one yet. I've even used a 1x1.5mm strip underneath - so 1 1.5x1.5 then 2 1.5x1.0 and so on. Not sure anyone will really notice..... So, no worries on building them. Might reduce the height a bit on the "next" "one" Red paint this weekend ??
  5. So then, I was looking at the MXAs - the ones using the BDA chassis. Appears to me that the deck has been completely removed, so that needs to come off the model too. Awkward as the chassis is split in 2 - the deck providing most of the strength. So, I've cut off the side skirts, and I've filed down the deck. Now looks much more realistic. I'll file some more off the deck to get it that little bit thinner. Photo with Mk1 box (since changed how I build them) attached: The angled supports along the length of the wagon I'm gonna leave - there seem to only be 5 on an MXA and they're in different positions. Who knows though, my rivet counter moment might be a permanent affliction.....rivet, rivet.
  6. Let's just hope you have some briefs and a couple of pencils spare then......
  7. Hmmm, long break.... Andy7 and Sam SDW7300 to thank for spurring me on to have a go on two small projects. A pair of RBA wagons in DB red. One or more MXA conversions from a BDA. The RBAs are easy enough, need to finish with transfers: The BDAs, more of a challenge building the boxes, but satisfying none the less: Cheers Nick
  8. Have to say, the instructions are comprehensive, not checked them against actual yet though...
  9. 010 That's all folks ! Had 011 and 015 full size versions today between Marylebone & Wycombe. Nice grunt.
  10. 006 Initially, no complaints. Lovely and heavy.
  11. 005 Super model all told. Can't complain really, the 1 nameplate at an angle though..... will have to prize that off..... The yellow on the nose, I can live with.
  12. Modelling therapy tonight.... some soothing music (Hope Sandoval) and some concentration on the task at hand..... Various silver bits picked out and a start made on the instrument panel on the jetting module. They do look very plain until the transfers go on. Saw 66720 today in a totally unrecognisable state on an RHTT working. I don't fancy covering that model in all over track dirt....
  13. So, blue applied and I've modified 3 FEAs for this project. Crossing my fingers and toes for Mr Hamilton this afternoon...
  14. That's one the Mick. I've been putting it off due to the building factor.... plus it's not as exciting as the ones with the sandite modules in my view. Should look good, when finished........ 2016?17?18?
  15. I may as well come clean... it's not an RS4. Always wanted one but couldn't afford. Have an RS3 8V in Railfreight Grey - so almost as quick and maybe a bit more stealthy ! Quick coat of Autoglym extra gloss (other polishes are available) today, it's now raining on it so it will be covered in Saharan sand tomorrow morning..... Here's my old beast, what a beautiful colour she was: And here's the new one (a year old now). Neighbours like it...
  16. All addictive stuff. Polish & petrol. Endorphins Anorak & rucksack !
  17. Yep, it's been a while, remember me ? Have been very busy at work which tends to sap my enthusiasm after work and at the weekends...... Throw in my obsession with the gym these days and looking after my car..... modelling tends to take a back seat. But, hay ho, have done some concentrated hours these past 2-3 days. I've always been hankering after the North Wales RHTT set, or the one that runs from Carlisle to Newcastle. It's more painful than some of the others: 3 wagons, 8 water tanks....... but I've done the graft now..... LOTS of filing to get 8 water tanks done. Just a few more detail parts then the whole lot can have a bath before priming. Beer ?
  18. I saw the set at York last night, the acceleration is rapid. The fastest get away I've ever witnessed. It was in diesel mode. Pretty quiet .... unfortunately. Nice looking bit of kit, I can only hope the virgin EC livery is changed before they are introduced. FOUL.
  19. I have to say, I've got zero sympathy with virgin and their woes. I struggle to see why they were in a rush to rebrand all the sets when the grey / purple EC livery looked great. Nobody is looking at any of these trains and thinking about brand loyalty - it's just a train to Joe public. Plus there is zero competition on the ECML long haul. Even the interiors were OK - although the refurb may have been part of the franchise agreement. Bellyache.
  20. I've done a "counting" and I reckon this is set 12.5. 0.5 as I built 3 modules for A.NOther person, so a half set..... Permission to say "WIBBLE" very loudly ? I guess the advantage of the half set is that I've missed out 13 ?
  21. Yeah, I know the man you speak of, usually has shades on due to the amount of "yellow" lying about.
  22. Sunday I believe, if you fancy a little cup of tea ? (Said in the style of the league of gentlemen)
