  1. FUD is an acrylic, harder, and not the same as WSF.
  2. BEWARE !!!! Generally, a warm wash with washing-up liquid and Halfords Spray Can of Gray Primer is being used safely In any case, check on something that can be cheaply replaced, like the turntable. Noel
  3. + MIB I have looked at the Crocodile L. but was put off on the sheer cost of the print. The best way would be to produce the trucks, and for the modeller to fabricate the rest with Evergreen sections. I think it would only be suitable for very large layouts. I have a white metal OO Coral, and the brackets are in a sorry state because of the material: it would be a good candidate, but I have no wish to cross anyone else's project. With the Pollens we are looking to fit and supply ballast because they are light. This is the solution of one modeller had for the Pollen C:- And of course rub-on transfers, when you know who in deepest Wales can get to it. Noel +
  4. Colin & MIB, Both of your kits are with edits we picked-up this week-end, and due for dispatch to you on the 19th. These kits have gone to South Africa and Australia, but it has been difficult until now, getting them into the UK. - Problem solved. Comments have been good, and it is taking time to get awareness of the models. Noel
  5. Absolutely amazing, and at 2mm too. It was once that as we aged we moved up a scale, but you are making 2mm really come alive. Noel
  6. The scene will stand out more with a backscene. Lovely job. Noel
  7. The livery is entirely the choice of the modeller. The models follow the pre-1930 84998 & 84999, all with current Didcot turntables. to form that 4 wagon rake. - because I model that era. The pictures posted above are today's post-1930 rebuild, when buffer ends were added to 84998 & 84999. - I will only do these if there is demand. Castle's, "A full set" would therefore be today's individually running two buffered pairs , whereas my model is the true pre-1930 4-wagon set. The items are available VAT inclusive on eBay. (January 2014 - 84997-84998 now available Post 1930, per above pictures)
  8. Interesting to see in this pic. that the rebuild with buffer ends was not symetrical. about the middle coupling. The handbrake handles betray that different ends of each pre1930 wagon were rebuilt - not being constant in the brake position..
  9. The Pollen E pairs 84997 & 85000 and 84998 & 84999 are now available as complete running kits. The Pollen C is available in EM gauge. If anyone is interested there are Sheave Wheels in both 4mm and 7mm (43.5) scales

    DCC Meltdown

I made a route diode matrix for some passing sidings and still landed up with as many switches! I like your board construction.
  11. Richard, Your Pollen C model was specially drawn for EM with Pendon in mind, and yours is in FUD. The tops of the wheel arches provided bearing surfaces for loads to move and the "lump" of an RSJ on the turntable was provided in the model to match this. We have worked as close as practicable for the manufacturing process from the NRM Drawings. The E is available only in OO. The model offered is the pair 84997 & 85000. The center wagons pre 1930 rebuild, 84998 & 84999 are also available on application, to assemble the full 4-wagon configuration. They have the handbrake in the middle of the side plate. Both pair have interconnecting brake handle rods. There may be problems with these 6 wheel models on sharp curves. There is no room for side axle play, and we are in the process of putting flangeless center wheels on the sprue, as an option to filing off a set of flanges. This pair may be redrawn with the buffer ends conversion if there is sufficient interest. The E turntables are modeled from the current Didcot wagons. The OO models listed on eBay are VAT Incl. ex. Shapeways in WSF with less defined rivet detail and a FUD sprue of small parts sent under separate cover. All OO models are supplied with sprue, wheels, and couplings to give a rolling model. The model require ballast. On shapeways.com the items are available in FUD for the extra rivet detail - and no beer money for a year! There is currently a set of Colliery Sheave Wheels available, as an exercise in pushing the process to the limits for detail at this scale. Other models are in development. Noel (January 2014 - Pollen E 84997-84998 both Pre & Post 1930 are now available in 3D OO Prints)
  12. Start at the slowest speed of you Drill Press, viz 620rpm.
  13. I too have this model in white metal from over 20 years ago. The angle supports suffer the same problems as the prototype, maybe a model ready for treatment with new techniques.. Noel (January 2014, - now available as a 3D OO Model)
  14. David FUD - told you so! After proper cleaning with a solvent, and rinse with really hand-hot water, and washing-up liquid with an old toothbrush: A coat of Halford's Primer should be a good base coat for finishing. Great model, and all the drafting done true justice with the print. Noel
  15. David, Re, Pendolino I am surprised at this scale that Shapeways cannot do a better print for you. Have they made suggestions for a better finish? FUD at 4mm comes out fine, with very few problems, if any. Noel
  16. In the years I spent at OSH in the late 50's, I wish I had spent time spotting locally. - photography was expensive, especially on 5/- a week!
  17. This tread started in 2010, and is an excellent record of how the quality in the prints has improved.
  18. All the detail of the 3D drawing is present. All outside faces, and the floor are clean with riveted angles. As can be seen, there are some print marks on the reverse side of the frames, with light relief and easily cleaned with a fiberglass pen. There is also the full 5'(20mm) turntable with an RSJ that sits within the vehicle. A NEM Coupling Box is provided. There are constant revisions to perfect the model.
  19. * They are currently available on eBay - don't believe the "sold/available". +
  20. I'll go with that as a good starting point for views about the activity - there are also several other Forums for model railway interests Problem is, "Issues" have no resolution and you can land up with more dissent than agreement. The Thesis would have to move the body of knowledge with some substantive results from first, a method to conduct the inquiry. Can I suggest a Soft Systems Methodology accumulated by Peter Checkland, Brian Wilson, and many others over 30 years of research in large concerns, where it was necessary to first get a "Handle" on the problem situation, before proceeding.
  21. I don't see the connection between the primary task of modelling coasts, rivers and harbours, to scale down a problem situation for further investigation and research; and that of model railways as an issue based outlet for expression of the real world - only as valid as a landscape or portrait painting. I think many would direct you to Pendon Museum where model railways are taken seriously and at the highest academic level; to ask about their mission statement, and whether even that measures up to the purposeful activity of, "Modelling coasts, rivers and harbours to scale down a problem situation for further investigation and research". as a primary task. Reading, you appear to have a messy situation of issues. What tools do you have for knocking it all into something manageable?
  22. Does anyone have pictures of the internal arrangement for the GWR Pollen C to drwg. A4? I have pictures of the 6-wheel Pollen E at Didcot, where the turntable was above and between the middle wheel arches: but the "C" was a 4 wheel vehicle with space centrally for a 5 foot table between the frames. Also, views of the chain locker behind the buffer beam. Can anyone help? This is what has been achieved to date:- Noel
  23. I am attaching pictures of the current state of progress in the commissioning of 4mm SDJR No.25a. for my layout of Writhlington Colliery c.1928. The Loco was built in its original form in 1885 and the model depicts its form immediately before it was scrapped in 1929. The model, in 4mm, is only 84mm buffer to buffer, and is in two parts. Cleaning of printer lines is required on the flat open surfaces of the Saddle Tank:unlike another's experience, the internal Firebox is cleanly printed. A compromise from 5'1" to 5'3" was made for the driver wheelbase to accommodate available motion parts until a dedicated etch can be drawn. Detail is gradually being added. The motor is from the Terrier, worm filed off, and replaced with 43:1 gear set. The 9mm 6-spoke Pony (not shown) is part of the print. There is plenty of room within for weight. This has been a 15 year quest, collecting pictures and information. There are many questions still unanswered.
