  1. That's good going. I usually have the telly on while modelling, so I'm not always as productive as I could be! The Parkside O gauge range covers a good range of wagons. They're very enjoyable to build. Which diagram Toad are you going to build? I've nearly finished the diagram AA3 that my sister bought me for xmas. So photo's of that my appear soon.
  2. That's an excellent piece of scratch building. How long did it take? I do like the plywood sided vans, they look very modern to me. Here's a photo of my Parkside version in 7mm:
  3. Lots of excellent posts still to come then.
  4. Glad to see that you've gotten over your camera issues. A very nice build. The Little Didcot fleet must be getting pretty big.
  5. They'll be getting some more of my money at Telford too!
  6. I built a JLTRT MK1 CCT just after xmas (pressie from parents), that just got a wash in some soapy water and went together just fine. The worst problem with it was cleaning up the whitemetal battery boxes.
  7. After yesterdays entry this appeared to be a logical next entry. I gave you all a glimse of my Fruit D yesterday, so here's some more details. I built this last November, most of the construction being done during a couple of days during a weeks holiday. There was one particularly memorable session during which I had the 1980 film The Sea Wolves featuring Gregory Peck, Roger Moore, David Niven, Trevor Howard and Patrick McNee on in the background. Like the Siphon G I didn't complete the painting, transfers and weathering until earlier this month. I like to do painting and weathering in batches where possible. The kit features a modular construction. Two ends, four side panels and six doors being made up individually before being made up into the body. The chassis had full brake gear and three point compensation. The only change I made was to replace the whitemetal vacuum brake pipes with some brass and spring alternatives from Slaters which I had knocking about. This is the later BR version with electric lighting rather than gas. First photo is the completed model before painting: Now in primer. (I ran out of red primer, hence the grey roof) FInally weathered: This really was a joy to build, although I can't help thinking that the JLTRT resin version would have been so much quicker to build!
  8. Will it never end?!?!?

  9. Thanks Peter, Yeah, that was a good few months ago! I built the Siphon G over three weeks just before xmas last year, but it's taken me seven months to get around to painting and weathering it.
  10. Photo's here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/1151/entry-9961-7mm-scorpio-outside-framed-siphon-g/
  11. Evening all, I've been considering starting a blog on here for a while and Wenlock's enthusiasm to see photo's of my Siphon G has propmted me to start. My workbench thread will continue to document my larger builds and this blog I plan to use to show my small and past builds. The Siphon G was pretty simple to put together, just a bit time consuming because the sides are made up from several overlays. The olny change I made to the standard kit was to replace the corridor connectors with those from JLTRT. I just didn't like the folded bits of paper. Firstly in primer: Completed, with the weathering started: FInally lined up next to my WEP Fruit D: Since taking the last photo's I've finished the weathering, so there will probably be another photo in the future.
  12. Great build. The siphon looks really good. My Scorpio 14xx/58xx went together pretty well. It was simply a matter of taking my time and discovering some patience I didn't know I had. A few of the castings needed a little work to tidy them up. Before xmas last year I built a Scorpio Siphon G. That was a very time consuming kit to build. Lots of overlays to build up to make the sides. But it did go together really well. I can post some photo's of the Siphon G if you'd like.
  13. That's one I quite like too. Their third album is due out on 20th August. http://youtu.be/Hkmno7nNWTg
  14. I really like this small layout. The factory looks spot on. Enjoy your holiday!
  15. Hmm, this looks rather interesting. Best of luck!
  16. Great work there Peter. The S&D blue is very striking. I'm looking forward to seeing the Ivatt completed.
  17. Great pics there Steve. The 15XX looks like she's been working hard.
  18. Welcome back Ken. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery.
  19. They are a good height. The handle on ours has been BR bauxite since last year. Ops!
  20. Hi Steve, I found this photo and thought you might like it: http://railphotoprints.zenfolio.com/p608550011/h363328cc#h343fb932
  21. It should be a week or two George. Depends on the weather so I can get the airbrush out.
  22. IMHO beautifully clean and shiney loco's are great if you just want to put them in a display cabinet and admire them, perhaps even give them an occasional run on a test track at an exhibition or on a club layout. But most of us strive for accuracy with our models and that doesn't just mean getting the details right when we build them. It also includes the paint work and weathering. Real loco's, particularly in the BR period were almost always dirty, and I like my models to look real!
  23. Definately! My loco will certainly be getting a good coat of grime.
  24. You're right there George. The weathering does hide the poorer quality of the HMRS transfers very well. Both loco's look great. Thanks for your kind words. The coal gaurds weren't difficult, just a bit time consuming bending 10 lengths of wire to the correct size for each window. The Modern Outline 14xx kit comes with a nice little jig to make the job easier. No such luxury with a Scorpio kit.
