  1. Hi all,

I wonder if anyone could help me source a copy of RM January 2017 or more specifically the article on the Class 124 Trans-Pennine units.

Any help would be great, if not I'll have to source it from Exact Editions, but I don't particularly like the fact I can't keep the copy.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Must say I thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. How about interviews with real railway people to find out the actual railway was really operated, I'm guessing you'd get a real variety of stories depending on their role.

  3. I don't tend to use browsing history especially since we can now bookmark pages from within RMWeb. However, having looked at my history, Windows 10 PC with IE11, it would appear that no history has been recorded since Wednesday, though it is being recorded within Edge. Checking update history, windows wasn't updated until yesterday, but if you click on 'BRM Spring' issue from the Home page, which displays a jpg, this is recorded in the history, as are other external links from the home page

  4. Hi All,

I've finally bought some of the new 00 Peco bullhead turnouts, but I need to reduce the track centres down to 45mm for my platforms to look more realistic.

I've trawled the forum, but only managed to find one real entry where  anyone has tried to reduce the track centres down to 45mm: Peco Bullhead Points : in the flesh.

I've printed off the new Peco pdfs for the points, so I've got the scissors out to have a play. I was just wondering if anyone has found any other effective method for reducing the track centres other than the method I found,

  5. Hi Andy,

this is the problem regarding blogs being updated but the date/time of the blog seemingly not being updated, the last entry for the 'page' being a blog with a last updated date of '6yr':

    browser.jpg.80469b58c0cb3cd13cafd52b2833248d.jpg

If the browser if refreshed, as more topics have been updated, the blog entry is now not the last entry on this page, so I can load more items. It's not a big issue for me but not sure if there's a problem elsewhere regarding blogs

I thought I'd wait a bit to see how things settled down first,

before I 'flagged up' problems ('cos they might be be me!).

So I haven't yet changed the setting from '365 days', as it's

something I can work out as I'm searching, but after a few

presses of 'load more activity' (taking me to about 12hours

worth of posts), it tells me 'there is no more activity'.

But if I then open and close the last post showing, it seems

to wake up and find 'more activity', is it me?

I've found this a couple of times, simply refreshing (F5) the screen brings back 'load more activity'. I'm not sure but could it be down to blogs, I've noticed a few times that blog entries mixed in the list of topics have dates of '6yr' whilst the topics are only minutes/hours old. It could be if the next item in the list is a blog with a date of more than 365 days old, there is no more topics to display, but then refreshing, more new content has been added, shifting the blog further down the list.

Yes, it gives updates on topics you follow.

I've had a ranty email from someone demanding that this spam stops immediately - I've told him to go and adjust his settings - there's a link in the email to do just that.

I think this is probably down to the old RMWeb software, I had all my topics set to weekly notifications, but never had any email notifications at all until the new software was installed, but tend to check topics I follow more regularly so have switched them off, but I guess could be the same for a lot of other users. Admittedly, my first reaction wasn't rant, but "oh it's now working", don't need these so I turn them off.

If I force the usage it seems to be global across all areas which would increase the number of tags to select from huge - I can't seem to limit to one forum area such as Layouts. I'll continue to look though.

I thought there'd probably be tens of thousands of tags, if not more, which would mean trying to rationalise them in to any form a nightmare. I know you've said the new software contains lots of new features, is there any keywording vocabularies such as those in Lightroom as this would make keywording topics a lot simpler, especially is some typical  vocabularies already exist, and as it's hierarchical would allow topics to be generic or specific but make searching topics interesting!!

Mind-reader! I was giving this some consideration today as a way of categorising scale/gauge/era/geography and looking so far as forcing tags on layout topics for example.

I think it would be useful to have some way of picking a tag from a list so that everyone uses the same tag, rather than a tag with the same meaning but different spellings etc., bit worried about reading your mind though, would hate to think what's been going through it the last week but could have a real god guess

  10. Hi Andy,

I don't know what other people think, but could better use be made of 'Tags'. At the moment, tags are user defined, which means that you get multiple tags with the same meaning e.g. 1940s, 1940's, 40s etc. If the tags were defined by Mods/Admin, everyone would be using the same tags as there would only be one tag for 1940s, which would mean when searching all topics with a tag, all topics would be found.

I appreciate that this could take a considerable time to implement, but I know some of the other software I use allows you to set a column with a value of x, y and z, to all have a value of z. If this is possible, it would allow the current tags to be frozen asis, then over time, the tags can be assessed and combined to standard values.

I have to say, regardless of the technology of the new release we can't see, I think what we can see is a huge forward step, thanks very much for all your efforts,

    Cheers

  11. Hi Admin,

now that it seems the indexing is complete, there still seems to be an issue with tags being displayed. When viewing Unread Content in condensed view, only one topic ever seems to display a tag, but it's only ever one tag even though the topic has many tags.

Otherwise, I think the new format is so much better, thanks very much for all the hard work,

    Cheers Andy

  12. Without new sides they are only really suitable for conversion to 115 116 117 118 121 122 127, even 117 requires some work.

New sides any long units, if you need sides try contacting Worsely Works and se if he will do them.

Thanks very much for the info. I  contacted Allen about the overlays, just got to wait until he gets a sheet completed to send to the etchers,

    Cheers

  13. Hi Clive,

I wondered if I could pick your brains. I've got a Lima class  117,  power and unpowered cars, which I would, in an ideal world like to convert to a Class 114 using the Craftsman conversion kit. Unfortunately I'm really struggling to find the MU9 kit.

If I can't find the kit, what would you recommend converting the Class 117 to, bearing in mind I'd rather not convert to an already existing RTR as I'd like something different to run and something that would be found in the NER, more specifically East Yorkshire between 1965-1975,

    Thanks

    Andy
