Don't forget that for most of their lives Mk1 coaches ran with only a few glow worms for lighting and they were only switched on after dark or for tunnels - so lighting would not normally have been detectable from outside well into the blue/grey era after fluorescent tubes were fitted and left on all day.

I remember on almost every railtour (or 'mystery tours' as my dad used to tell us) there'd either be no or very dodgy worms.  ISTR there was a panel with two buttons to push to restore the coach glow worms sighted in the vestibules?

  2. Who were the original company, big four or region of BR for the station?  You might find that one of the societies or groups (even Facebook groups) for that particular railway company may have track diagrams and building plans?

Perhaps the Midland Society might be of use?

Is there anything in Mr Castens Emporium of railway literature that might be of assistance?

Good luck, I find research one of the most enjoyable parts of the hobby.

I would suggest that the better signs on this front have been the Bachmann SECR birdcages, Dapol GW toplights and now Ellis Clark's announcement of the GNR/LNER 'Quad Arts'. Let's have 'character' stock true to prototype. There's plenty enough choices to go round all the brands competing in 4mm...

Absolutely, I will only buy true prototypes for my trainset (even if I use them un-prototypically).  I don't mind paying for the uniqueness / quality either, Toplights and Cross Country Sets as personal examples.

    Top stuff 👍

Dunster village, which is charming but a bit touristy, and then Dunster Castle

Oh yes, that's where the cider comes from!

They do the occasional tour of parts of the castle that aren't normally accessible to the gp, lots of tunnels and the odd hidden door/ passage into rooms and the old kitchens etc.

  5. My personal favourite is Dunster, but it's in the middle of nowhere.  It's our nearest station when we stay at Dunster Beach in the out-laws beach chalet but isn't near anywhere in particular.

do any of your cats eat vegetables?

Peggy would go mad for mushy peas, no other vegetables that I knew if.  If you had peas, she had peas and would then use her paw to clean out the tin.

  8. Hi all, I've recently purchased a Falcon Brassworks LNWR/LMS Traction Engine Wagon from eBay.  The 'kit' however is missing it's buffer castings (they aren't shown in the seller's photographs, so not missing from the kit as such) and I was wondering what the correct pattern might be and where I could purchase a set?

No big deal as I have bought the kit for soldering practice but it would be nice to see if I can finish it to a reasonable standard.

    Cheers,

  9. I wondered what our cats were doing, I thought they were just using my armchair for a scratching post (because why use the scratching post I got them 🙄).  Turns out they were trying to build this....
