  1. 08s used to do regular trip workings around the Sheffield area with steel traffic. 08s also used to make runs from Knottingley to Milford sidings and Gasgione wood to collect crippled coal wagons and return them to the wagon repair shop at Knottingley. Both Knottingley and Tinsley received a pair of 09s in the 1990s to allow higher speeds on trip workings.

  2. earlier on this year SWMBO received a letter informing her she could claim some money back in overpaid tax and that if we responded they would send us the relavent forms to claim said tax. We had an idea that we were owed some tax so requested said forms, filled them in and sent them back. A couple of weeks later we received notification from the tax office that we were indeed owed several hundreds of pounds back and would receive a cheque within the week, however when said cheque arrived it was lower than what we expected. On reading the letter that accompanied the cheque we realised that we had been dealing with a handling company and if we'd have gone directly to HMRC tax office we would have received the full amount.

  3. now is not the time to speculate and point fingers, we should let those who are trained and knowledgable about these issues do there jobs and give out true and acurate information before we start demanding answers then real solutions can be worked out.

I did not start this thread for finger pointing or political debate so please don't.

I started this thread to pass on our thoughts and best wishes to all those caught up in this horrific incident.

I'd like to thank all those who work for the emergency services who once again turned out in there masses to such a horrific scene

And wish the local comunity my best wishes for the way they are pulling together to help out those who have lost everything.

  5. as you are new to the hobby try looking on YouTube at Kadee couplings and how to fit them, this will give you some idea of how the couplings work and how to fit them to different types of rolling stock. I hope this is of some help and gives you some guidance. Just remember we all started not knowing how to do things and with a little help and guidance from forums like this and other modellers we learnt. Theres always plenty of help and advice available on here, don't give up

    Will be missed by many

  8. many years ago when my layout was at York show my team and myself requested to be put up in a B&B even though we only travelled about 35 miles, however this request was so we could enjoy the after show activities and not have to worry about drinking and driving.

Whilst at the show we were provided with bottled water every day as we entered, each exhibiter was asked how many 2 litre bottles they would like. The whole show was organised fantasically and my whole team had a great show.

If you ever get the chance to be behind the barriers take it, it gives you a whole new view of what it takes to make an exhibition work

  9. many years of watching Blue Peter to see what was being made with cardboard rolls and sticky backed plastic and can I use it on my trainset, those were the days when kids tv was entertaining and educational, when kids actually made things before the days of computers, games systems, mobile phones and the internet and the tv presenters had to have get up and go and inspire. John Noakes was always on the go and always up for a challenge. A real inspiration.

RIP. John Noakes once again you can go wandering with Shep.
