  1. I totally agree, to some extent Hornby, and certain other manufacturers seem to be forgetting where there roots are, they seem to be more interested in the "collector" market than the good old "modeller" market. Another issue is with the 3 figure prices of modern models it puts prospective new modellers off, design clever would possibly give those new modellers a starting point.

When I started modelling if you wanted super detail you went out and bought detail kits and parts and created your own model, whereas now you just buy a model and stick it on your track or in a cabinet, no personality

  2. Tri ang had a model many, many years ago which would be ideal, it was a 4 wheeled vehicle with a big fan at the rear ( Wind power ).

On a more serious note, what will happen to freight train, will they only operate under wires from hub to hub for the freight to then be put onto many more battery powered vehicles to clog up the local road networks.

  3. No the driver wasn,t injured, I believe there were no injuries however the issue of the guard was highlighted on the local news on the day.

As a broader issue, surely there is a health and safety case to retain a guard on trains carrying passengers as if a D.O.O train was involved in an accident which left the driver unable to carry out there duties what would happen to the passengers. Another point is in an incident such as the Scotish unit derailment recently it would have been a case for the train crew to protect the derailed unit by placing detonators correctly which as it was single line would be needed in both directions.

  4. Sounds more like a short circuit somewhere, the controller is designed to cut out in the event of short circuit. When you dismantle the loco check the wires to make sure the insulation is still good, check it doesn't rub or catch anywhere it shouldn't and check the wheels are all the correct way around and still insulating correctly. Also when you reassemble the loco make sure all bearings are lubricated and free running.

  5. As already said, now is the time to offer our thoughts to those who have lost loved ones and to those who have suffered injuries.

Now is not the time to speculate on the cause or offer opinions, or point fingers and lay blame, now is time to let the experts investigate and give correct, informed details that will help make the industry safer and better for all.

  6. So it looks like this year may be the last year I'll bother with as by the sound of it live races will only be on Sky TV from next year and I have no intension of paying to watch,(typical Yorkshire man, tight as a ducks a##e).

  7. Yes that logo was for the short lived network North West, which saw many units given the NW logo and some a complete relivery with grey main body colour and red and white bodyside stripe. This livery appeared on class 142s, 150s and 323s and the NW logo was replaced by the words Regional Railways.
