  1. I’m building a late crested era layout as that’s what all my current stock is. Thinking of picking up a Farish Midland 4F. All that I can find are the early crested variants for sale. Would it have been possible to find them with their early crests into the sixties?
  2. Thanks everyone. It seems like Black 5s and Rebuilt Patriots were among some of the more common sights on the S&C.
  3. Doing research and not finding too much info. How prevalent were the Princesses on the S&C? Also, I do know that ex-LNERs were run on the route. How often were A3 and A4s run, or were they more of a rarity? Thanks!
  4. This works! Honestly, I only saw the GWR ratio kit. I am not adverse to building one, so this works perfectly.
  5. Man... I've been on line looking for the Lyddle End East signal box (based on Dent) which was discontinued quite some time ago. Not having much luck and not willing to pay $45 USD on ebay for it.
  6. Got it... And that helps explain LMS practice on the S&C a little more. Basically, if they needed to go into a siding, it was backing to avoid head ons. Which given this layout, if the lay by is added, its the down line because a good train or what ever else would pass it, then back in to it.
  7. That is something I have questions about, as I am not as learned in this aspect. Is the double slip the one leading from the mainline to a single slip in the good loop? Or does it go single slip to double slip? Those are the only two "slips" in there? Or are they not? Thanks.
  8. So I think I'm close to finalizing a layout. Once again, Harlequin has gone above and beyond to assist me by reversing the layout design. I feel this version provides a little more breathing room.
  9. The one to the South is still there... its dashed as "optional".
  10. I love it! Yeah... it will be permanent and I can definately make part 3 feet.
  11. Saw That. Looks good. Now I just need to figure out how to get your downloads working in adobe to try and fail at cobbling it back together backwards
  12. I think think the reason I put the viaduct where it is, and the station where it is, is because I didn't want it too look too much like the wonderful Dentdale. That layout is somewhat similar to what i am planning.
  13. That's actually a pretty good point that I had not thought of.
  14. I'm fine with the hand of God... and content watching trains just chase tails.
  15. Oh... absolutely. It will take time. Work training obligations in FEB-MAR and a two week vacation in April... I am pretty busy. But I think for the most part, what you have provided will serve the perfect basis. The only thing I need to think of is the fiddle yard. This layout is only planned for myself and I don't have a need for excessive fiddle yard so I am thinking only one or two loops on each side. Just enough to have 4-6 engines on the layout.
  16. Indeed. I think for the purpose of this layout, and the time period I want, I will keep them open for sure. I hope to start building the baseboard soon. I will likely start the track work left to right. Mainly because the left side of the layout will primarily consist of the viaduct and will be a lot less cost intensive to produce in the short run. I am pretty excited and can't wait to get this thing rolling. I've decided on one six foot and two 4 foot sections.
  17. Well... some people do love the technical aspects and challenges. Guess you are one of those You aren't an engineer are you
  18. I can always add back the one that was there in earlier drafts.
  19. Greetings all! I am building a Settle & Carlisle layout in N Gauge. I plan on posting updates on my progress here as well as solicit all the usual critiques, hints and help. The layout will be approximately 14 feet x 30 inches and will feature a viaduct on one side and station on the other. The station and goods yard borrows bits and pieces from more than one on the line, and since it is not to represent any one station, I am just simply naming the layout the Fells. For now at least. All my buildings are from the Lydle End range and will need some modifications to them. Paint color being one, and fixing the ugly windows being another. I am currently in the baseboard phase and I plan on one 6 foot section which will contain the viaduct, and two four foot sections on higher legs which will make up the station and goods. Special thanks to Harlequin for taking my vision and arranging it into something I can better visualize.
  20. Oh... wow! Yeah, I'll be using Peco code 55. So I'm thinking for the left half, I'll use 6" of benchwork. reason being, that is where the viaduct will be and there will be limited point work with the exception of the rear fiddly yard. This will allow me to build up foam underlay. The right side will be two four foot sections with the legs being about 6-8 inches higher than the viaduct side. Hoping this works...
  21. Greetings. I have several of the Lydle End range S&C buildings. While they are very good, there are a few issues. One is the color, which is an easy fix. The other is that the window panes are hideous and just don't look good. Does anyone have experience replacing these or can point me in the right direction of finding a suitable replacement?
  22. Ooooh... I think we have a winner! And this still allows for a decent sized viaduct on the approach, or... I could move things to the left to make the curve on the right not quite as severe! So this one would omit the lay by siding on the South side? Not opposed to that... I really do need to download your track templates and try and get them up and running.
