  1. Hi all. Thought it was time for an update as quite a bit has been done lately. I am pleased with the results as it's begining to come to life now. So here are a few pics of the progress. The Thatch cottage has been bedded in never to move again. I also built the barn. Another view showwing the Blacksmiths store and workshop. The workshop was copied from a picture of one in a book, Victorian and Edwardian Dorset. I wondered what the round stone was for embedded in the path way, it turns out it was what they used to re-tyre cart wheels. You can just pick it out in this photo A view showing the back of the cottage A view of the Bridge Inn, I know the sign out the front shows a fox, this is due to be changed when i can find a nice little pub sign of a bridge. Showing the lane going up past the houses and the Bridge Inn The back of the Bridge Inn leading down to the river Langley Models Coal cart. I dont think it will stay there, it will probably find a home outside the Blacksmiths workshop And to end , a view of the goods yard, terraced house and The Bridge inn A lot of what i have done lately is of "beyound the railway fence" and so i have done quite a bit of research in "what was" back in the day. I have been fascinated in what i have learnt, Absolutley nothing to do with Railways. It's amazing where this hobby takes you
  2. Ok, so it was December 2011 when I started this layout, well it just seemed longer than that Colin
  3. Hi all. Thanks very much for all the "likes".It was based on one that my Mum lived in as a child at Hinton Martell, long since gone as it burnt down some years ago. It took some time to build but the thatch wasn't a actually that difficult to do. What's next. Well we need a barn and perhaps an outbuilding of some sort.then a pub for the middle section next to the river. After that we need to sort out the signals, am looking at MSE ones lattice upper quadrant and there ground signals. Need to make more trees,I was thinking of tree lining the river on one side, thought it might be a good effect to watch the trains coming round the curve through the trees, and the backscene I've got one just not got round to fitting it. I have been building this for,is it nearly 3 years and there is so much still to do. The station Master's garden, the two houses need there gardens sorted.all things to do in the future. Colin
  4. Hi all. I thought it was time for an update as to what's been happening on Pine Road for Corfe Mullen. Some new station signs have been added. A thatched farm house has been scratch built (no it hasn't been snowing, I just havn't got round to the ground works yet) A new addition to the family has been taking up my time. Casey. Sweeeeet. A loading gauge has been added. And a small fence with some fire buckets attatched ( idea came from Harmans Cross, on the Swanage line). Real one. Model one. I should buy myself a decent camera and take some far better pictures. as Olddudders says
  5. Hi all. Another quick update. I have added doors and guttering to the engine shed. Colin
  6. Hi Guys. It's high time for an update, so here goes. Looking towards Phase 2 The engine shed, The windows were a pain (excuse the pun) I took some better pictures with my camera only to find the files are to big to upload so these are from my phone camera but you get the idea. Colin
  7. Hi Ray. Thanks for the comment, it's actually Wills Plastic Sheet. Colin
  8. I must apologize for my absence, it has been a while. Bare with me an update will follow very soon. The layout has moved on some what, so wont keep you in suspense for to much longer. Colin
  9. I copied one off of youtube the one where he makes one from an electric fly squatter witch i got from Maplins and a tea strainer witch came from the kitchen draw, she hasn't missed it yet. It works very well. Colin
  10. That cottage looks amazing. The effect on the walls is brilliant. Colin
  11. Love the lorrys, that adds a nice touch to the scene especially with the half loaded lorry, not often you see that. Colin
  12. A quick update. I thought it was time i made a start on the second board, so i bolted the 2 halves together to line up the road way. I can at least say that phase 2 has begun. I have a road going over a river, so what to do? a good old classic stone bridge Perhaps. I have been round the local area to get some ideas, took lots of photos and just made a mock up to see what it would look like. comments greatly recieved:
  13. Just taken this one thought i would post one of the whole layout, well half of it actually, the other half has hardly been touched yet, i really must join the 2 halves together and get on with the rest. I need to sort out the backscene. need to go out with the camera and take a series of photos and see what we can come up with. it did use to be higher but just felt it over powered everything so i cut it down 4'
  14. Just a small update. There is still a lot to do in the gardens of the houses but its coming along.
  15. Good story there Black Sheep, I think back in the day they were all cast iron, long before someone invented plastic. Colin
  16. Hi all. That seemed a very short weekend. Well anyway, I had a spare corner on the layout and thought perhaps a couple of terraced houses would look good there. Trying to remember that they probably would have been there before the L&SWR came along to build their nice little branch line in Dorset. So begs the question, what would a typical Dorset terraced house look like. After a lot of searching, looking at old photos, visiting a couple of local villages, etc, i came up with this. Obviously not finished yet. I wish i hadn't used the Ratio fixings for the down pipe they are grossly huge. I think a 4MM scale builder would have a real job on lifting them up and fixing to the wall. Whats the verdict. Personally i think they look ok. There will be a couple more next door but that would be on the next board. I was thinking of perhaps a little thatch cottage or something.
  17. Hi steve. Ummm, I cant really bring the buildings as they are sort of permanently attached to the layout. unless i brought the whole board. Yes, go on say it...don't think that would happen...lol . Colin
  18. Hi Biketosteam. Its funny you should say that. Here's a pic of the other end of the goods shed, tryed to make it look like leaves had fallen from the tree next to it. I will add some more detail to the roof. a good idea. I thought it looked a bit plain
  19. Just a little update. The goods shed is pretty much finnished now so thought i would post some picks of it in situ. I have started on a couple of terraced houses now as i have a small blank corner to fill
  20. Hi. Very envious. there is some really good modeling going on here. the scenery is a real credit to you very well thought out. Colin
  21. Hi all. Thought i would post an update on the goods shed. I decided to paint dark brown as Lyme Regis was. Yes i Have straightened the door handles up. And a couple of the progress on the layout.
  22. Hi all. I have started to build the goods shed for Pine Road. I have decided to base it on the one that was at Lyme Regis, It's like no other goods shed i have ever seen. It originally had a siding on both sides with an end loading dock. Ok, so i haven't got that on my layout but will turn one side into a normal loading bank. The only thing that bothers me is that the building was a very dark brown, almost black looking, presumably after various coats of creosote (wooden structure). It looks awful and think it will distract from the rest of the layout. I am tempted to paint it in Southern Railways Green/Cream colour scheme. The dilemmas of modeling. As my layout is not an exact model of Lyme Regis i think i am aloud to get away with it LOL. Opinions please gratefully received. I never was any good at making decisions Here are some pics of the goods shed so far, as we know we all like lots of pics. They were taken using my phone, so don't expect miracles.
  23. Looking really good here, following with great interest
  24. I've only just come across this. I have been sat here for the last hour or so reading from page 1-9 Truely amazing. Now on my "follow this topic" list. Its so good that you decided to build your own track, it just looks so much better. Col
