  1. France let themselves down with discipline and simple handling errors. If you want any chance of winning you need 15 men on the field. School boy stuff and Ireland punished them as any good team would. It's the old story of France having a great team on paper if they can be bothered to turn up. 

    The way the other two matches go could be anyone's call.

  2. Both North Sunderland Railway and North Sunderland Light railway are correct. The operating company name was the North Sunderland railway but in the company winding up order the company was named as the North Sunderland Light Railway.

    For those interested the NER H/LNER Y7 that operated on the NSR was modified especially to operate on the NSR. With the addition of Westinghouse air brakes and in one car oval buffers. Also they were of the final batch built at Darlington and had ross-pop safety valves.

  3. After some sole searchng I have descided to sell W C Boggs. If anyone is interested im looking for about £1000 for it. Which is about what all the parts cost to build it. It will be avalable after its trip to Kendal show at the end of the month.

    The couplings are Flippems, they were developing of my layout by me. They work well but the stock just doesn't like the badly designed points. Apart from the radius issue there is a check rail issue. They are the same size as you would find on a point that has a 6ft radius when they should be 3 times as long also the curves should all have check rails on if they were following prototypical practice.

    my current little inglenook uses 48” radius Marcway points purely because I had them left over from years ago. But I was considering whether to use the Peco setrack on my next project, which is also an industrial prototype with mostly 4-wheel wagons. 
    if you’re having problems with the Peco then perhaps I should avoid it.

    I'm using wagons no longer than 15ft6 and a mix of small kit built 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 tanks and Dapol Terriers. Buffer locking is so bad I can only run the Terriers chimney first as the overhang on the bunker end is to big and pulls the stock off the tracks. Only wagons that have no side play in the wheels are used. And buffer compression is at maximum. Dead buffered stock circ 1870 seam to be best.

     

    Anyone who thinks they are a good idea need shooting. And yes the right should have said tight.

  6. As someone who didn't avoid minimum radius track. I would like to put it on record that I wish I had avoided it. Never again it's got to the point that I'm thinking of ripping all the track of Boggs and relaying it with 4 or 5ft rad points as the peco ones are too bl**dy right.

  7. Phoned the insurance company again this morning. I was told a different story from the one yesterday. Today's story was the repairer's hadn't finished the report so their hands were tied. 

    However within 5 minutes of the phone call ending I was sent a txt saying that the car was being repaired. No mention of a hire car. So phoned the repair company who have now outsourced the hire car to enterprise who should be contacting me shortly.

    Watch this space for the next installment as I expect to hear that they have run out of cars.

  8. An update on what is happening or no in this case. We are now at day 6 and we still haven't seen a hire car.  We were told that the delay in having the car checked was due to the bad weather in the place where the car is being assessed. Which is very strange as we live 35 miles away and apart from a little bit of rain there has not been any bad weather in the last 2 weeks.

    We have been told that our car will be assessed today, but then the insurance company engineers might have a review their assessment which could also take a few days. So I'm not putting any money on getting a hire car before Christmas.

    We have started a formal complaint but that could take 8 weeks to process. Our policy is up for renewal at the end of the month we will be looking elsewhere.

  9. An update on the progress with the insurance company and their subcontractors.

    They still haven't assessed the car and it is unlikely they will have assessed it before Monday. Their excuse is that there is a lot of cars needing assessing and it is taking longer than expected to be done. When asked about claiming for loss of earnings etc they said they couldn't say anything.

  10. I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else recently.

    On Tuesday I had a confrontation with a concrete bollard in a carpark. The damage was bad enough to claim on the insurance so reported it to our insurance company. So far so good. They organised for a third party to pick up the car, assess it and if deemed repairable a hire car would be issued. They then said it would be a week before they could pick it up. Went back to the insurance company who sorted out someone else to pick the car up and take it to be assessed by the third party. Then the third party said they had no record of the car's arrival. Even though we knew they had the car. The repair people are now saying it could be a week before anyone can look at the car, so no hire car until then. Which leaves either me or the wife not being able to get to work etc. probably not a problem if you live in a urban environment with public transport but out here in the sticks major issue. 

    Any thoughts of what we need to do next, very welcome.
