This image was actually the one that inspired me to have a vent on Stockrington:
I first saw it about 45 years ago in my father's copy of OS Nock's "The Railways of Britain - past and present" (1947)....
Never under-estimate the power of imagination to inspire youth
Cheers

The reverse shot,
the black n white photo was taken from the top,
I live a mile away from this photo',
the photo was taken last summer,on a guided walk,up from Samphire Hoe, 3. miles along cliff top and return,
I was back marker.

@ Jukebox #791,
Is that the section of the south coast line between Folkestone and Dover? If it isn't it, certainly reminds me of where the A20 dual carriageway now passes near-to the access to Samphire Hoe.
Probably changed a lot since the photo was taken.
Cheers,
Philip

Summer is blistering away here in Perth, and I’ve not done a lot upstairs in the last few weeks, but I have been researching and planning, and here’s where I am at.
I know I need a static grass applicator - The size of Stockrington justifies a decent grassing tool, and it will undoubtedly get a lot of use. I am sceptical of the “tea strainer” versions, and given I have at least a good 5m² of open grass land of some description on Stockrington (if I've done my maths correctly, that’s over 7 scale acres!), plus the nooks and crannies of vees between tracks and other spaces, I just didn’t like the idea of a yoghurt-and-duct-tape DIY jobbie having to last the distance…
There’s a few options out there, with almost as many opinions, when you start to research. If you drop ~£100 on a tool, you expect it to do what it says on the box. The Noch Grasmaster has been the benchmark for years, and is now in its 2.0 version. World War Scenics offers a variety of machines of different sizes – and lots of useful how-to videos; they also sell plenty of grass, too. There’s the Flock-It and the Grassinator – and an “interesting” online contretemps between the designer, the website developer, and the distributor of those units. In the end, I’ve ordered a unit from Europe called the RTS Greenkeeper. I chose this one because it uses a higher rated ion generator (?) 35kV versus 20kV for the Noch unit, which theory says will impart a stronger charge to the grass and make it stand up more than its competitors. That’s not to say none of the others work – clearly, they do, and the results many modellers get with them are excellent. Having to import one into Australia, I’m paying a premium anyway, whether I buy from the USA, UK or Europe, so for a little extra over the price of the Grasmaster 2.0 or the WWS ProGrass, the Greenkeeper should have more oomph, and comes with the different screens and nozzles that the others sell separately. I have zero experience with any of the others, so won’t be able to say how it compares in my use – but I’ll call it warts-and-all how I see it when it comes to grassing Stockrington with it. And I guess you will, too!
Aligned with the purchase of the hardware, I am now accumulating consumables. I’ve ordered a variety of samples of flocks and static grasses from all manner of sources – eBay, the “local” hobby shop (gasp!), and online retailers in the UK… I hate paying a premium for this privilege, but know I that like the ballast, I need to sort of the “what” to use, and then buy in bulk to cover the areas in question. There was some lichen going cheap on Australian eBay last week, so I snaffled that up, too, and there’s a supplier here in Perth a lunchtime walk from my work, who does bulk florist wire at a good price, so I’ve bought a 2kg box of that to try my hand are making tree armatures.
I’ve also got some Peco and Ratio post and rail fencing coming. Again, it’s a case of checking out samples, figuring out what works best for me, and then going back with a larger order. The “long” West side of the layout room is 7m. I suspect that I’ll be needing almost 20m of the stuff by the time I fence both sides of the track along that wall, plus some intermediate fencing. I know Slaters make some, but the unit price seems high, and there’s a laser cut card version from Scale Model Scenery, however I am nervous about the durability of card in my railway room, given the variations in temperature between summer and winter.
Cheers
Scott

I bought a box of six Cobalts in 2014. One was faulty and was replaced. Since then another has stated the clicking as demonstrated by the OP. I haven't done anything about it as the motor concerned is in an awkward place. It only clicks when switched over one way, and so when it switches over that way I turn off the power to it as soon as the switch is completed. That stops the clicking. The problems did effectively put me off Cobalt motors, however - my Tortoises, though bulkier, have all worked flawlessly.

You might get your chance to buy one yet, have you seen the RHC sets that Hattons are soon to Beleaguer our wallets with?
I have to admit that, having not the slightest real reason to buy a set, I found myself working out how it might be possible to fill one of the water tanks with cleaner fluid and fit a weighted slab for fitting corduroy cleaning pads too!!
J
Already ordered J, at least a month ago.
Just have to take care in ordering the correct running set,for your area.
My area,is Kent, DVP.

I do like that LT livery, dt.
If I didn't already have a brace of inappropriate Heljans to haul my CMX around Stockrington, I'd be tempted to buy one!
Scott
Which livery would that be,,,Jukebox ?

I didn't know that thanks.
In the meantime, I have just received a message from DCC Concepts offering to look into this for me. So many thanks to them for that. Hopefully we can get it sorted.
- Don
Am sure your problem will be sorted.

They look just the job for a canopy I will need to build. What glue did you use between the brass parts and (presumably) plastic beam and supports?
Thanks

https://flic.kr/p/PaeDmAActually,October is not far off ! Thank you for your patience.
I thank you for you previous post's since March, especially the Tod connection.
Most of the day's,since early this year have been taken up with local voluntary organisations or in my "new" allotment, when most's day's were over 30 degrees.
Far too hot to do any kind of modelling on a Wednesday night,or any other, come to that.
Loftysr, has been rather unwell for a number of months, so last Wed and six weeks previous, are the only two attempt's to model anything.
Which culminates into these few photo's, for you all to look at.
