The Hornby Railroad HST Class 43 is unpleasant to the eye whereas their main range HST is unpleasant for the wallet. I really hope that Oxford Rail is filling the gap between those two, introducing a Class 43 not-so-much separately fitted detail but to a good quality and without gimmicks like rotating fans etc. I think the email survey which was completed by me too (and I was surprised to see BR Intercity Swallow not featured) is a very good way to restrict the amount of people entering some ravel to those who in the first place bothered to sign up for their newsletter which they apparently think is a good match for future paying customers. Makes me pondering how methodically accurate the Wish List Poll actually is (just a thought). Felix

Me too am interested in languages and especially the English one. I am afraid that Eisenbahnmuseum is a bad choice of word in the original text, and I meant that it means preserved livery only in this context. Otherwise, a common German expression is Museumsdampf, which literally translates into museum steam, but in fact means a working steam locomotive, which may but may not be in a museum. As the Germans have no Tornado the German language does not differ so much between railway museum, heritage railway, preservation railway and so on. We did have Plandampf in the 1990s though. Translation services often don't get it right when translating English to German. The German language makes no space between nouns when the first one is a nearer description to the second one. Railway means Eisenbahn and museum means Museum, but as a railway museum is not a railway and a museum (as assumed by google translator and the likes) a railway museum translates to Eisenbahnmuseum. The trained German eye at once distinguish the two words as Eisenbahn|museum. Regards Felix

To get this right DRG made the best use out of the locos which could well be outside of their home territory. It was quite usual to see e.g. Prussian locomotives later after formation of DRG.

Don't knoe whether these are the same vehicles but they look LSWR and therefore "look similar": Bulleid Pacific at Exeter Central by Geoff Dowling, auf Flickr Please Hornby, do them in BR malachite livery. The BR teak Gresleys have been done fine in respect of the numbering and lettering, so I cannot see why this should not be repeated in a Southern style. Did these coaches in the event of an early BR repaint wear vermillon colour like the Birdcage stock of Bachmann or were they painted standard crimson? Felix

Is it really correct for the early version to not feature the smoke deflector? I always thought the deflectors were removed when they were converted to normal non-Crosti operation.

Don't lend yourself to the illusion of being able to make modular modelling mainstream. I know of no set of standards, no country all over the world that has modular modelling as a mainstream. Not even Fremo.

Hi, While reading the latest Railtalk magazine I stumbled across a photo of a Sprinter coupled to a Pacer: http://www.railtalk.org/magazine/issue107.pdf#page=116 I have seen pictures and at least one video of a Pacer coupled to a Sprinter DMU before, but I wonder if there is or has been any regular workings. They look very mismatching but are perfectly coupling compatible. Any region, era, operator or specific Class of DMU is appreciated. I am looking forward to your comments. Regards Felix

Does anyone know what chassis may be suitable for these D3D body kits?

I just cancelled my order for an Early Crosti 9F, literally almost with tears in my eyes. I used to pay about 1.30 EUR per pound during 2012, 2013 and 2014 with the odd bounces upwards and downwards. Since January the Euro dropped and in consequence the pound costs me just in excess of 1.50 EUR now. This is a price increase of over 10% on top of the average increases of roundabout 20% of the major RTR manufacturers. In the past I have been able to compensate price increases outside the hobby but this has not worked for me in this instance. It literally hurts. By the way I am a modeller in the age 20 to 29 segment so clearly in a minority. But there must be others too, with or without the currency exchange problem. A community always loses the weakest members first if the environment variables changes – I certainly feel left behind by the rising RR prices of new items. I don't blame anyone, but please manufacturers, take notice. Felix

I assume they have moved the point of announcement of a new model earlier in the development process. This may be because fewer prototypes remain unmodelled so a possible competitor is developping the same model with a higher probability than in old times. A competitor may make the developments up to the point of announcement worthless in the worst case so this may be a reason why manufacturers progressivly turn to play safe and announce way ahead instead of make surprise releases. My opinion. Felix
