  1. If you're having issues fitting in a fiddle yard as currently designed, may I suggest either a sector plate, or a cassette yard. You'll probably find it easier with the multiple units, as you won't have to keep taking them on and off the track as much as with a traditional or sector plate yard. Hope this helps, Chris
  2. Just a reminder that the show is this coming weekend. Full details on the REC website: http://www.rec-farnborough.org.uk/exhibition.html
  3. It'll be interesting to see how it look's up the side of my scratch-built TC unit (in BR Blue - See thread here), with all it's separate detail. The pics in the Hornby magazine make the Kernow one look superb though. If i'm honest about the cab handrails, from most photographs they look like they are flush to the sides anyway, so for normal OO viewing distances they should look fine. I agree with the wipers, but easy to replace with an etched set from MJT....
  4. Finally relented, and now have the early Blue / Grey set on order. One question that has popped into my mind. Will I definitely need to put a decoder in the set to run it on DCC powered track, or will it be OK without a chip?
  5. Thanks to you both. I had thought of placing a bit of plasticard at the pivot, so i'll give that a go and see what happens. I did try locking the screws up a bit tighter, but then the bogies didn't rotate free enough.
  6. As the topic title says, does anyone have any ideas how to cure a leaning Ratio Bogie 'B'. I've tried adding some weight but doesn't seem to have helped. So any thought's out there from other members who have experienced this?
  7. Saw a couple of 442's in the sidings at Eastleigh yesterday. Are these the ones being kept in warm storage?
  8. Thanks for all the like guys. So when I said it''s almost finished, well like most things it's not 100% there. I still need to detail the underframe on the DTSO's, what detail there is anyway. I'm also going to finish off the TFK eventually to make it up to a 4-TC. But i'm very happy with it as a 3-TC at the moment. Time to do something else. I have a pile of engineers wagons to build.....
  9. Thanks guys, number 5 was the one I had in mind.... re. number 4, funnily enough i'd also thought about the catch point being a bit close... Now the next question is.... which way would the windows face...?
  10. Also, as detailed over on it's own thread, the reason I haven't done much on the layout is that i've been finishing my TC set off. Here it is, having just arrived on a service from Reading.
  11. So today i've managed to finally get a bit of time with the layout to do some scenic work by the loading dock. As can be scene i've finished off the loading dock and crane as well, just adding a few more details. I've also got a platelayers hut to place, but i'm unsure where to put it. Below are a few pics of ideas I have. Any thoughts as to which looks best? I do have another to make up, so I can change the position of the windows to suit it's location. Perhaps I can use both? Anyway, here are the pics.
  12. I ordered from them a couple of weeks ago online and the item arrived next day. So they're definitely still around. In fact they are due to be at the REC's Woking show in September this year.
  13. So, it's been about 4 years or so since I started this project, and finally I can say it's almost finished. Just a few final touches to the paintwork and a bit of weathering to go, plus the interiors for the DTS's to complete. So here are a few photo's, apologies if the quality isn't great, they were taken on my phone. The corridor side on the TBSK. The compartment side of the TBSK. The TC set has just arrived at Blackhurst from Reading, hauled by Class 33 D6511. Ready to depart back to Reading. I've given it the headcode 22, which is the route number for Reading to Redhill/Tonbridge services, and a TC set was allocated to run a peak time service on that route. Obviously it's not on a par with the Kernow / Bachmann version, but I know I built it, and i'm happy with it.
  14. Seeing it in the HM has finally convinced SWMBO to let me pre-order a Blue / Grey one....
  15. I wouldn't worry, took them 4 days to pick and dispatch 2 small items this week to the UK. Hopefully they turn up today.
  16. Thanks everyone for all your replies. I think you've all answered my question. It looks like what I currently do is the quickest way currently available.
  17. Thanks Dutch_Master, handy having the NMRA specs What I should have mentioned though is that i'm using Advanced Consisting for this. Whether that helps at all or not? Would it be easier for me to just drop one if the units from the consist rather than killing the actual consist?
  18. They will be split to run separately. So in this example the 2 units will arrive at a terminus station and then the front unit will depart first, and some time later the second unit will depart. The reverse will happen sometime later, in between which they may be used separately as single units. The reason for asking is that this is for an exhibition layout, so I want to reduce the amount of time faffing around making the consist.
  19. OK, so a bit of background on this. I'm using a PowerCab to run my Southern Region layout. As part of the sequence I have a pair of EMU's consisted together. When they arrive at the station, they then have to split, and go their separate ways until later in the sequence when they join back together again. My question is, is there an easier / quicker way of splitting / combining the consist rather than having to kill / re-create the consist each time? Many thanks, Chris
  20. So a house tidy up for my sons birthday and some unusually extreme hot weather in the south has meant i've not really done much modelling in the last month or so. However, I have managed to make a start on detailing the new loading dock by adding a crane. This is the Wills kits.... Hoping this weekend to get on with finishing the TC set, and get it ready for the paintshop.
  21. I've had this issue once and found it was the cable that was the problem. If it's the flat cable that came with PowerCab, it's probably the wires in the plug that are flexing. Invest in one of the coiled cables you can get, but ensure you order a 6 wire one, as a 4 wire one won't carry any power. Hope this helps.
  22. I have a Lima 117 converted with a Susumotor running on DCC and it works fine. I've used an NCE D13SR, which gives great control over the whole speed curve. Still needs a bit more tweaking though.
  23. Thanks for pointing that out, i've updated the list above now. Cheers.
  24. Hi Richie, That pic was taken on one of the layouts at the club I belong to. There are a few other pics of them on my layout thread. As regards the colour of the tanks, it all depends on what grade of oil / fuel they carried. As a very basic rule of thumb, Class A (Petrol , etc. grades were carried in Grey tanks and Class B (Fuel oil, bituminous oil etc.) in Black tanks. Green tanks if I recall correctly is for Aviation fuel. Chris
