  1. Putting this question here, as I think it belongs here. Has anyone else noticed that when using F1 to start the engine, that the guards whistle sound plays as well? Or is this just unique to my unit?
  2. I actually like the "broken" horn sound, especially when I remember hearing horns like that on SR EMUs.... at least it doesn't do it everytime the horn sounds. But putting that aside, the sound on it is most impressive, and Blackwater once again resounds to the sound of Thumper units. However, I may have to get a bigger / better speaker to up the sound level for exhibitions....
  3. I'm very happy to report I am now the receipient of a Blue sound fitted Thumper. And very nice it is too. Outstanding job by Greg @ Kernow for getting all the sound chips fitted. And superb service from Kernow as always.
  4. I did this with the layout i'm currently constructing (yes must start a thread) and the extension ended up being 2 and a half ft.... Fortunately SWMBO was ok with it.... Looking forward to seeing this layout progress. Cheers, Chris
  5. Hi Ian, just out interest, what will you be using to glaze the toilet window on the HAP? I'm toying with making a couple myself from the Replica parts, so would be interested to know. Cheers, Chris
  6. Having seen some of the mythical arrival dates for the Class 73 from Dapol, this might not be such a mistake.... Seriously though, will be good to see the model in the flesh as it were. Having only seen it from 2 angles doesn't do it justice....
  7. Looking great. That snow effect really looks good. I'll be going to the Farnham show tomorrow, so will be sure to stop and take a look. Cheers, Chris
  8. Dropped Kernow a mail yesterday, and Greg replied that they should all be done by the end of the month..... 31st October is looking to be a long way away at the moment....
  9. I kinda thought there might be a long order list. The fact they haven't got to Oct 2014 orders yet will make SWMBO happy.....
  10. Saw your post and meant to speak to Biff and Charlie at the REC show a couple of weeks ago (i'm pretty sure I was in front of their stand when I read it), but they we're quite busy, and so was I (manning the competition layout stand), so didn't get a chance to have a word. I've seen the video of them recording the sounds for the project, so I doubt they would have got them wrong, maybe something to do with the frequency of the sound and the speaker used? I'll see how it sounds when I get it. I seem to recall that some of the real horns could sound rather off if they were on their last legs, but not sure if we want that on a model. Anyway, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Perhaps there is a reason I've not got mine yet? (apart from being late to pre-order)
  11. Kernow have Biff's YouTube vid of the Thumper at the bottom of their Class 205 page on their site: http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/pg/112/Class_205_Thumper_Unit Sounds good to me so far....
  12. The sound option on the new batch is done by Legomanbiffo from newly done recordings. So i'm sure it'll be much better.... i'll let you know, once my one arrives from Kernow.
  13. Glad i'm not the only one. I keep looking at the Dapol model and something doesn't seem right, but I can't put my finger on it. Mind you, could just be years of looking at the Lima model....
  14. Well, I alter the momentum settings through the CV's myself, but at exhibitions it has been known for the momentum button to have been used to reduce it. I guess fortunately I have the usb interface for the PC, so can save all the proper CV settings there, but I think i'll whip out the insulation tape before the next on to ensure nothing goes wrong. Cheers for the warnings.
  15. Slightly OT, I wonder if the sound fitted options will have the ability to rev the guts out of the engines without going anywhere, like they frequently used to at Paddington.
  16. Having lived by the Reading - Guildford stretch of this line in the late 80's and into the Turbo era, 117's made quite a regular appearance..... Even had the 121's appear, in place of an OOS 117/101 DMBS. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing 101/117 scratch sets too towards the end.
  17. Looking forward to getting my sound fitted thumper and giving it a good thrash (or should that be thump?) round my test track. Quick question Bif (sorry probably belongs on another thread) i'm using an NCE Powercab, and have seen in the instructions for your sound chips that there could be issues using the momentum button. Would it be worth me re-mapping this button, incase someone 'accidentally' tries altering the momentum? (Not me I should add). I've never had an issue using it with my us outline stuff with qsi and soundtraxx chips, so wondered what the difference is with the European chips? Cheers, Chris
  18. Oh, I hadn't heard that they had a fire. I only mentioned September, as they are due to be attended the REC's exhibition in Woking, which i'll be at.
  19. It'll no doubt be announced the day after I buy the 2-Hap kit from the guys @ DC Kits in September..... Maybe i'll be safer getting an Oxted or Tadpole kit....
  20. That's fantastic news, was only watching that video on youtube this morning. Should be an awesome sound chip going by your other examples.
  21. Still a few more weeks to wait for the sound fitted version.... i'm sure it'll be worth the wait though....
  22. I have a feeling that the cab roofs were fibreglass, but the rest of the roof was steel, except the bit over the engine. But i'll be happy to be proved wrong on that. I may even have it the wrong way round, lol.
  23. The more I look at these pre-production models, the more i'm convinced I was wrong that they looked a bit odd.... Must have been the images Kernow posted up.... However does the body look any better than the Lima one? Guess it depends how closely you look at. The mu cables for one are the biggest improvement in that respect. The chassis however will be lightyears away from even the Hornby one, and might just persuade me to get one. Mind you, already having 3 Limby ones and a Kernow 2h on order, SWMBO would take a lot of persuading.....
  24. My patience ran out too, sorry Dapol, so much so that I bought an early blue Lima 73 off eBay on Monday. Managed to get 2 Lima/Hornby 73's for half what these new ones are going to cost, and have ordered a Kernow Thumper instead. Tbh, looking at the pre-production shots, I think the Lima body moulding is going to stand up pretty well against the Dapol model. Ok, no etched grills etc, but the Lima body was always one of their best. Is it me, or does the front across the cab windows look a bit odd, just a little too flat? Might just be the photos, but that's the first impression I got.
