  1. Have a quick question. Is there any way of disabling the air release (when the parking brake is applied iirc) coming on automatically when the unit stops. I only seem to recall that they only applied the parking brake when the service was terminating. If the unit was to be moved to a siding once the passengers were off, I don't seem to remember them doing that. Maybe someone will correct me....
  2. Given the quality of the Bachmann / Kernow thumper @ £200 for what is essentially a loco and a coach. I'd be happy to pay roughly £250 for a 3 car set. And considering the debacle unfolding over on the Dapol Class 73 thread, I for one am glad these 2 unit types are being done by Bachmann.....
  3. Tbh, until someone comes up with fully working roller blinds in 4mm, i'm happy with the white blanks on the front. It's better than red numbers on the rear.... I think (in my opinion) the red rear blinds are probably a more distinctive feature of BR SR EMU's than the headcode numbers.
  4. Regarding the issues with the DCC socket, correct me if i'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the 73 was going to be fitted with a PluX socket rather than a standard 21 pin?
  5. Erm, don't Dapol already produce the Class 73 in 'n' gauge? Surely all the info. they needed was already there. I just wonder perhaps whether someone from Dapol should have gone to China to inspect the production models before they went on the boat, rather than wait until they arrived in the country?
  6. Perhaps this livery mistake with the IC version is in commemoration of the Green Lima 73, which had a green lower stripe rather than rail grey?
  7. This is similar to my situation. I already have 3 Lima 73's which won't take much to detail them up a bit. The problem I have is the 3 Lima Class 33's I have. One is halfway through being detailed as a 33/1... Trouble is, the Lima 33 is, let's be honest, awful, and i'm pretty much gilding a pigs ear. With Craftsman seemingly having gone the way of the dodo, the other 33's may as well be given to my 4 yr old son to wreck on his train set. So unfortunately for Dapol, as nice as this new model is (even with the errors), i'll save my money for a couple of Heljan 33's instead.
  8. Just went back and looked at the pics from Warley, and they are all missing the buffing plates..... As you say, hope these are in the box, but why would they be a separate item for fitting anyway (perhaps to keep the price down)?
  9. Tbh, in 2015, should we expect to buy a £140 locomotive and have to correct livery errors ourselves? Yes, I know we are modellers (for the most part), but these sorts of livery hiccups are the sort of thing I would have expected from Lima 30 years ago. I don't mind having to repaint / detail a £30 Lima loco from evilbay, but a brand new £100+ RTR loco?
  10. Cheers Bif, I did think it was something like that.
  11. Putting this question here, as I think it belongs here. Has anyone else noticed that when using F1 to start the engine, that the guards whistle sound plays as well? Or is this just unique to my unit?
  12. I actually like the "broken" horn sound, especially when I remember hearing horns like that on SR EMUs.... at least it doesn't do it everytime the horn sounds. But putting that aside, the sound on it is most impressive, and Blackwater once again resounds to the sound of Thumper units. However, I may have to get a bigger / better speaker to up the sound level for exhibitions....
  13. I'm very happy to report I am now the receipient of a Blue sound fitted Thumper. And very nice it is too. Outstanding job by Greg @ Kernow for getting all the sound chips fitted. And superb service from Kernow as always.
  14. I did this with the layout i'm currently constructing (yes must start a thread) and the extension ended up being 2 and a half ft.... Fortunately SWMBO was ok with it.... Looking forward to seeing this layout progress. Cheers, Chris
  15. Hi Ian, just out interest, what will you be using to glaze the toilet window on the HAP? I'm toying with making a couple myself from the Replica parts, so would be interested to know. Cheers, Chris
  16. Having seen some of the mythical arrival dates for the Class 73 from Dapol, this might not be such a mistake.... Seriously though, will be good to see the model in the flesh as it were. Having only seen it from 2 angles doesn't do it justice....
  17. Looking great. That snow effect really looks good. I'll be going to the Farnham show tomorrow, so will be sure to stop and take a look. Cheers, Chris
  18. Dropped Kernow a mail yesterday, and Greg replied that they should all be done by the end of the month..... 31st October is looking to be a long way away at the moment....
  19. I kinda thought there might be a long order list. The fact they haven't got to Oct 2014 orders yet will make SWMBO happy.....
  20. Saw your post and meant to speak to Biff and Charlie at the REC show a couple of weeks ago (i'm pretty sure I was in front of their stand when I read it), but they we're quite busy, and so was I (manning the competition layout stand), so didn't get a chance to have a word. I've seen the video of them recording the sounds for the project, so I doubt they would have got them wrong, maybe something to do with the frequency of the sound and the speaker used? I'll see how it sounds when I get it. I seem to recall that some of the real horns could sound rather off if they were on their last legs, but not sure if we want that on a model. Anyway, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Perhaps there is a reason I've not got mine yet? (apart from being late to pre-order)
  21. Kernow have Biff's YouTube vid of the Thumper at the bottom of their Class 205 page on their site: http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/pg/112/Class_205_Thumper_Unit Sounds good to me so far....
  22. The sound option on the new batch is done by Legomanbiffo from newly done recordings. So i'm sure it'll be much better.... i'll let you know, once my one arrives from Kernow.
  23. Glad i'm not the only one. I keep looking at the Dapol model and something doesn't seem right, but I can't put my finger on it. Mind you, could just be years of looking at the Lima model....
  24. Well, I alter the momentum settings through the CV's myself, but at exhibitions it has been known for the momentum button to have been used to reduce it. I guess fortunately I have the usb interface for the PC, so can save all the proper CV settings there, but I think i'll whip out the insulation tape before the next on to ensure nothing goes wrong. Cheers for the warnings.
