  1. He is very good, I've bough things from him several times, last time direct using his website, he's also on a Czech forum I'm on. Buying from websites rather than from the shop can be a bit hit and miss, I've bought from four shops for my new TTe layout and have no problems but one particular shop I just cannot get the stuff from. Currently I'm trying to get some Czech friends to get the stuff from him! There's a small model shop in Ceske Budejovice which is not far from Tabor, just down from the station. I'm surprised no one mentioned the other model shop in Prague, behind the main station on Manesova which has a good selection of new and secondhand, the name eludes me at the moment!

The shop in Ceske Budejovice is ZZ models. 5 minutes walk from the front of the station. Down an alley and into what appears to be someone's front door, up the stairs and at the end of a corridor.

Can't find the address off hand.

Re Prague, do you mean Prago models?

Bookstall at Masarykovo and shop a couple of streets away?

A lot of this info is contained in other threads.

    Look here......

  2. Ish , Dave.

The 721 at the top is MTB. Bought from Prago models. Very nice model and runs like a dream.

The Goggles is from Roco. This really is lovely. Again running is superb and it comes with etched plates( as does 721)and a lot of extra detailing bits and bobs.

Next on the list is a 810 railcar from Bramos. Very expensive at nearly 6,000 CZK, roughly 200 of our British pounds!!!!!

I would also like a MTB Bardotka which most think is the better model when compared to the ROCO offering. However, ROCO models are cheaper but with more liveries.

The MTB 742 is also on the list but having looked at the prototype and the model I can now see why Marian indicated there were issues with it. However it is still a nice model.

I do not want to start doing kits again so if I want a reasonably priced 742 this is the only way to go.

I also like the look of the 770 Hummel. Produced by PIKO already and pending by ROCO. Far too big for what I have in mind but........rule 1....?

This looking like an expensive year.....

  3. At the risk of deviating further, I had the pleasure of seeing Leighton Buzzard at the Rail Wells show earlier this year. Very nice it was to finally see it in the flesh/wood/metal etc.....

I rejoined Cardiff Model Engineering society just before Christmas after a gap of a few years. We had just acquired Hardwicke when I left, along with his rolling stock. Frank was, I believe, a member of the club when he lived in Caerphilly. Some of the members used to go to his home for running sessions on Borchester.

Hardwicke is a lovely layout and featured in Model Rail a few years ago now. I was able to look over it just before Christmas. It really is a time capsule and, like Borchester a fitting tribute to one of the great pioneers of our hobby.

  4. Interesting note about track Bechyne - Tabor - that was first electrified track in Czech Republic, elektrified since 1903 by DC 1.5kV. It's a first track in central europe originaly designed and built as electrified rail.

Also interesting could be that original system designed by Frantisek Krizik was using three wires - two on trolleys like for trolley bus ( + 700 V DC and - 700 V DC ) and ground wire on track. It was changed in 1938 to standard two wires system.

I was very surprised by the route if the Bechyne line. Very twisty and far from straight.

Looked as if there was once quite a bit of freight traffic over the line, judging by the amount of sidings and rail served factories still there.

Bechyne is most likely going to be the plan I adopt for my branch terminus.....without the wires.....

Somewhere near Tabor is the working title.

  5. Yep that could gave been one of the units seen at Olbramovice. The other was in the Red and cream. This may have been a trailer.

We were going to take a run on the branch but time was too tight. This is quite a nice terminus.

  6. Kind of sad that the 810's that were so common when Ian and I first visited are getting thin enough on the ground that one needs to be preserved. Way cooler than the Regio rebuilds.

But a least one will be safe

Dan, coming back from Prague, we passed through Olbramovice and the branch to Sedlcany is being run by 810 railcars. They are also in use on services from Tabor.

    So there is hope.

Re the 810 at Masarykovo, my other half noticed that it was lettered in Slovak so not surprised that it is owned by a preservation group, which also explains the condition.

  7. Cardiff City 0 v West Ham Utd. 2

    .

The footballing equivalent of two bald men fighting over a comb.

    .

Obviously West Ham neede the comb more than we did

The honeymoon is over Mr Solskjaer

Thought Malky was a gentleman on match of the day just now when asked to comment on both the game and Cardiff City as a whole..

  8. Not sure Ian. We popped in on the way to Prago model and found it sat there.

It was very clean looking like a recent repaint.

There are rumours that Masarykovo is to be redeveloped which would be a shame. Great contrast in architecture. I particularly liked the area where the Prago bookstall is. Good communist building !!!

Really nice model. Mine came in a PIKO box, Ian.

Busy doing a spot of armchair modelling now. Looking at various plans.

Google earth is a revelation to a thicky like myself. Awesome satellite shots and most stations seem to be on street view.

Also picked up a book of layout plans.

    Really enjoying all of this.

    Rob.
