    Hi Steve,

Are the digital versions of this magazine available as PDFs, or, are they only readable online?

Does a digital subscription give access to some sort of archive?

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi David,

Sorry for such a late reply. Our Digital Editions are only readable online. Once you purchase an issue, it's yours for keep. It purely sits within your online 'library'.

A digital subscription works the same as a print subscription, as in you only get what you pay for. If/when you decide to stop your digital subscription you can still access all of the magazines you purchased as part of your subscription.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  4. I have to say that I find this more than a little bit disappointing. I think it is unfair that there are two different magazines. When you subscribe you, in my opinion, are subscribing to BRM - the magazine you could also buy in the shops after subscribers received it. After all the editorial mentions the Mellbridge article - it does not say that the article is for the selected few. If you want to attract subscribers then do the article as a pull out advert, do not give the high street buyer a watered down edition. In a sense the high street buyer pays more for the mag because there are no subscriber discounts. The high street buyer deserves the same product. I actually feel a little cheated by this.

Any non-subscribers who would like the Melbridge article can send me their address to brm@warnersgroup.co.uk and I'll happily send it via email.

Our reasoning behind the two editions was because we felt that subscribers don't want to see a small article and subsequent pages dedicated to subscription adverts. Therefore, we felt it right that we would reward their loyalty with a second version of the magazine with extra editorial. If any newsstand readers feel cheated by this I am, as mentioned above, happy to email them the missing article. The mention of this article in the Editor's Welcome was a mistake. I apologise to anyone who feels disappointed by missing this article.

Your point about the high street buyer paying more for the magazine is correct. However, we do have substantial costs involved (believe me, retailers like to make a decent percentage too!). Fulfilling a subscription costs us much less, hence we can pass-on those savings by offering low-price offers or including gifts as an incentive - it works for us and works for many thousand readers. I applaud those who want to buy their magazine from their local newsagent or model shops (thank you), but we also offer very attractive subscription offers for those who are interested in getting the magazine delivered to their door and/or want to save money on the cover price.

  5. My DVD has developed a problem where it stops after a few minutes. There are some marks/scratches on the disk, but even thought I've tried to clean them up it doesnt seem to improve it. Who do I contact to get a replacement disk?

    Hi,

Drop us an email with your address to brm@warnersgroup.co.uk and I'll sort a replacement.

  6. Try opening a bank account. You will get a good rate.  After a year you will be automatically shifted to a crappy one.  New customers at the same bank will get a "new" deal with a good rate.  To get back onto a good rate you have to close your account and get a new one possibly somewhere else. This is just one example.  There are many other "offers" like this from businesses.  The basic principle is to suck people in and then screw them over because most can't be bothered continually updating things.   The loyal customers end up paiyng for all of the extra admin costs of continually creating new "offers" and deals.  On the other hand try finding something that gives you a benefit or bonus after a few years custom. You will be hard pushed to find one.  It doesn't pay to be loyal or honest.  It wans't a glib comment - it's an established business practice.  The public are getting wise to it and companies that pursue such policies are starting to get the contempt they deserve.

'screw them over'? You pay £9.99 a quarter from Day 1, that saves you £21.79 a year in comparison to buying the magazine every issue. You also benefit from free delivery to your door and a discount on pre-booked tickets to our shows.

If that's been 'screwed over', it's fine by me...

  7. It seems a swizz that subscribers like us are penalised for our loyalty. Unfortunately we live in a culture which doesn't take any notice of loyalty.

    Hi,

The vast majority of current subscribers will have received a gift or introductory low price offer, just like any new subscribers through this offer will receive a BRM Work Station. You, as a subscriber, also benefit from money off tickets to our three shows. We are working on improved added benefits too. Subscribers are definitely not penalised. Let's take any subscription-based service as an example (Sky, BT etc) - you subscribe via an offer and take that added benefit (gift or introductory low price). They don't let you cancel and then re-subscribe.

We are slightly different that you can cancel (if you've been with us for 1 year) and re-subscribe. However, you need to consider the following:

    1. Your new DD rate may be higher. A lot of subscribers will be on a very low DD rate.

    2. If this happens too much, we won't be able to continue with offers such as this.

    3. We are working to add extra benefits to subscribers

    I hope this helps,

    Steve

  8. Just got the email with the offer of a free workbench if I subscribe - problem is I'm already a subscriber. Is there any way to get one, I don't mind paying for it.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

We are discussing a number of added benefits to further improve the benefits of subscribing, a kind of 'Subs Club'. Ideas floating around include 'Exclusive Special Offers' and access to a mass of extra content online. It's early days but we are thinking of how we can improve subscriber benefits.

In terms of offering this product to current subscribers, we have a limited number of these for the subs offer but if we have any left or can get more, I'll certainly look to do this via an email to subscribers only.

  9. Hi all,

We have the pleasure of having a work experience student on BRM magazine for two weeks. Matthew Stevens is 15 and is an active OO gauge modeller. As part of his placement we asked him to write a prototype article. He chose Class 44s, 45s and & 46s.

He will upload the article below in the next hour or so. He would appreciate any feedback and will keep an eye on this post to interactive with anyone who wishes to make comment.

Please be considerate that Matthew is 15 and this is his first ever prototype article.

    Thanks all,

    Steve

  10. Tried to order a print copy in advance but it wanted me to register and provide and complete loads of details despite wanting to pay by PayPal which automatically supplies the delivery address and necessary information. There doesn't seem to be a way to jump directly to PayPal payment (that many other sites offer). I gave up in the end and will wait until it's available in the shops.

    G.

Hi Grahame. By creating an account once, it means any future purchases from the site are dead simple and quick. Unfortunately our website doesn't 'talk' to Paypal adequately and we need the relevant information to be able to send your Email Newsletters (should you decide to 'opt in'). It's a very straightforward process.

  13. Hi all,

It’s with deep regret that we will be closing RMweb Buy & Sell on Friday, March 3rd at 12pm.

Our aim was to create a thriving community of railway modellers looking to do, as the name suggests, ‘buy and sell’. Whilst visitor numbers and sales were good, our focus at present is with BRM, BRM TV, RMweb, our four new magazines and three railway modelling exhibitions. We felt it was only right to close Buy & Sell as we couldn’t give it the focus it needed and deserved to be a success.

We are already looking at other ways for the RMweb community to buy & sell products. Andy York will be instrumental in ensuring that we make the right decision for the community. We will announce more in the future.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Buy & Sell

  14. Still gives the impression of marginalising diesel and electric enthusiasts. A better idea might have been to be inclusive of all traction types in the first issue, otherwise why not extrapolate your argument and go the whole hog by just featuring steam in the magazine? As has altready been suggested (over the 'new' or 'repeat' content) it might be a good idea to stop digging.

    Merry Christmas.

    G.

Maybe you should apply for the vacant BRM editor position?

  15. Sorry, that may be the case, but it is an illogical flim-flam excuse to say you will base whether to produce a diesel and/or electric based version on the sales revenues of a steam DVD (as in Steve's post/reply).

    G

If sales of this steam version are good and we deem it a good use of our time (with regards to sales revenue generated Vs man hours to produce), we'll do further versions. If sales are low and we feel it's not the best use of our time, we won't produce further versions. I think it's fair to say that a Steam Special will be the most popular, and whilst we can't compare it with a diesel/electric Special like-for-like, it will give us a decent indication as to whether there's a demand for a Video Special dedicated to certain parts of the hobby.

  16. How do you gauge that interest? And what will be enough?

I don't recall you asking for expressions of interest for the steamy version.

    G.

We didn't. We took it upon ourselves to produce a steam version, which we feel has the best chance of achieving good sales. If sales revenue justifies the time spent to produce it, we'll do more. Simples...
