  1. I don't know whether it helps, but I have increased the density of this photo to try to make the details clearer.
  2. Here's a nice blast of steam in one of Dad's earlier photos
  3. Plenty of steam here - but on New Year's eve I expect that the winter air would show up any little escape of water vapour - so more - cold and steamy!
  4. Just look at the state of the track afterwards! They cut back the platform at Tidemills Halt, but when they reverted to 313's the gap was too great and they closed the halt. Seaford's platform had to be rebuilt That old trestle at Oyster Pond bridge didn't stand a chance. and as for the Newhaven crossing - that was an orange army job!
  5. I can't remember which thread I uploaded this to but now seems the time for a reload!
  6. I just posted this elsewhere, but realised that Grandpa* had got it wrong. Surely this is his Lordship and the Memsahib on the beach at Hunstanton! Edit - *'Grandpa' H.T.Sutters was, at the time he took this photo., installing electrical services in the Abbassia Barracks, Cairo. He had previous done similar work in HM Dockyard Portsmouth.
  7. No! That should be one and tarpence, surely!
  8. What? This race? News travels very slowly from north Africa. Photo courtesy of my grandfather who was installing electricity in the barracks in 1912-13. Sorry, you said cycle race.... I think grandpa must have missed the main peleton and this guy was somewhat adrift, to the west of Palestine.
  9. These are the only photos that I can find of this building - I have more of Emblem House, but not 29-33. Two were taken in January this year and the other in 2008, but the building is much the same, it would seem. I have probably uploaded the 2008 before. Keep up the good work. and have a speedy recovery Phil
  10. Loads of narrow gauge industrial at Amberley Keep the railways in museums theme going - please
  11. It doesn't look like any one has an appetite for food! Let this one take us from food into Museums - railway museums or railway exhibits in transport or general museums or have we done that before?
  12. The only reason I went to the bother of creating a collage of Oxford station food outlets (that is an Oxford collage not an Oxford college) is that I belonged, for a while, to a group on another site that shared photos of pubs, restaurants and other eateries. More food please!
  13. On the Kent & East Sussex Railway - doing what we all liked to do in the days of steam - risking a bit of smut in the eye! Any more of the same?
  14. The weather should be getting better soon, they say, but let's keep indoors for now - it's quite an unusual theme - getting some otherwise unseen photos into the daylight!
  15. Just to prove I was paying attention several meanders ago - if you need a stained glass window for your church here is one with Dorcas in and one to spare.
  16. Were you inspired by the Dubarry Perfumery factory at Hove? The factory was built in the 1920s, but they looked back to the French Revolution for their name, so doubtless they wanted another classic period's script for their perfumery's lettering. http://hovehistory.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/dubarry-perfumery-hove-park-villas.html
  17. It seems very fortunate that someone was there to record the incident - at least this end of it.
  18. Although looking unusual these trips in and out of St.Leonard's Engineering were fairly regular for a time. I had to travel to Hastings every other Friday and saw several of these movements. Any more unusual formations?
  19. You can see a wider shot here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/85292-army-198-haven-street-iow-31-5-2013/ I have more to add to this album, I just haven't the time to sort them out at present.
  20. A couple of examples and another one with SR discs
