    Free Mk One Carriages?

Hi All A new TV advert appeared at lunchtime today- a multi part magazine called "Your Model Railway Village"- a 120 part production to enable you to build a layout and 1960s style village. Part one is £3.99 with other parts to cost £8.99. Part one has an odd piece of track attached plus a BR Mk1 Compartment carriage- which is lined, but un numbered and without any roundels on it. The roof probably needs painting too. No obvious makers names - but made in China. It matches the size and layout of a Bachmann MK1 but at £3.99 this looks like being a bargin. Part 2 contents are not so obviously good value- but you might like to go and grab some whilst they are still on sale. Thanks to Jim Connor who rang and tipped off. I have no connection to the producer of this item!! Regards j73
  2. Hi All I bought my copy from Smiths on Friday for £7.99 and settled down to enjoy, as I enjoy Phils way of explaining what he is doing/has done to create different looking layout worthy items. I was particually taken with the Hunslett 0-4-0 conversion (page 50) using a Silver Fox resin kit and rang to order one from them on Monday morning. None are currently in stock and it may be some weeks before they become available but Silver Fox were so pleasent, professional and helpful that i have ordered one anyway!! Silver Fox really recommend the use of the Tenshodo SPUD as it gives a better representation of scale speed and does not rock from side to side like the Hornby 0-4-0 chassis. The author of Parkers Guide had not been in touch with Silver Fox to tell them that this product might soon be in demand. I was also taken with the article on Page 98 concerning the construction of 10203 on a class 46 diesel chassis- so much so that I bought a Diesel on E-Bay over the weekend. What a silly move as Silver fox tell me that they stopped making this kit some while ago as Dapol/Kernow were going to produce a RTR version. Once again the author had not contacted them before writing a very useful and thought provoking article. I have shared this info with Hornby this morning- so the moral of the story seems to be check that you can obtain all of the bits before committing to a project- thence Caveat Emptor- let the buyer beware. The good news is that I have found Silver Fox and was impressed by them, their candour and way of doing business and have bought their 18100 kit as consolation for myself as a Christmas project. Their Irish railway stuff is superb but i cannot use it on the GWR. Regards J73
  3. Hi All I am seeking a Silver Fox 10203 model-they are no longer in production Dapol/Kernow supposedly doing a RTR version? Unbuilt- in the box if possible. Please respond via the blog. Regards J73

    GWR Engine Drawings

Hi All I have been having a look at the GWR Modelling site and want to turn a Hornby14xx into a 517 but the site suggests reference to a drawing to take my measurements from. Can anyone suggest a source of engine drawings please- my book shelf does not contain such an item- carriages, road vehicles and wagons yes but engines no! Thanks in advance for your advice. Regards J73
  6. Hi All Does anybody know of a way to contact Dean Sidings- the phone number quoted on the web does not allow incoming calls and messages to the quoted e-mail address Daveslater7@msn.co.uk are returned saying the account no longer exists. Snail mail has not brought forth a reply either. Regards to all and thanks J73
