  1. I don't care if it is unmade, it's still a second-hand example of a kit that's still available from the manufacturer for less. OK, not that much less, but given the choice between a brand new kit that's covered by merchantability and distance selling laws or a handful of Nectar points, I'll take the former. However there's obviously one person who disagrees with me or simply CBA to do their research...

  2. Washingborough I think?

    John,

I trust your nearly ready for the Lincoln Show on Saturday the 1st June & Sunday 2nd June at Washington. That's near Lincoln not DC by the way folks.

Bad news for you John after that last remark is that I will come and say hello on the Sunday.

Looking forward to seeing Lincoln Central and Gowt's Bridge (an old friend) again.

Looks a cracking smaller & more friendly show than many of the large ones.

    Regards,Derek (Del).

I think it's Washingborough, we've got one of those and a Waddington, but no Washington ;)

  3. Oh that has made me choke with laughter, and yet people are paying money for this stuff.

Unbelievable, isn't it? Some people are such shameless charlatans I honestly don't know how they sleep at night.

  4. In fairness, I don't think he half-built it. He's merely profiting from someone else giving up.

For sure, but I was referring to his attempts to place the body on the chassis. Admittedly I'm a kit-building tyro, but I don't think he's got it quite right? ;)

For those that don't like long descriptions. Brand new unopened Lima cl 37 in an open box. Bit pricey for me.

You can buy it now even though there isn't a buy it now button. Is this allowed? Not that I'm the eBay police...

He's relisted it, along with the rest of his overpriced tat that didn't sell. No prizes for guessing how much he's reduced his prices by. Didn't Einsten have something to say about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?

He's got no end of stuff with similarly optimistic prices and no bids, including a couple of Lima class 50s at 100 notes apiece. The gostude is strong in this one

  7.

I TOOK IT TO BONHAMS APPRAISAL IN THE NEW FOREST RECENTLY AND I WAS TOLD BY THEM THAT IN THE 30 YEARS THAT HE HAD DONE APPRAISALS HE'D NEVER SEEN SNYTHING LIKE IT AND THEREFORE COULDN'T PUT A TRUE VALUE ON IT.

Some people never understand when they're politely being told to p*ss off, do they?

It's truly disturbing, it looks like something John Wayne Gacy would have knocked together :O

  8. More competition for Gostude!?

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-DUBLO-EDG7-LNER-0-6-2-TANK-GOODS-SET-ROYAL-SCOT-BOX-RARE-/171007396079?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item27d0d5c8ef

Granted it is the rare early post war issue set and it reasonable condition apart from the box which has seen better days, but the collector buyer* has to souce the correct chassis for the loco (it should have a horseshoe magnet) and hope the bent couplings will all straighten out.

I don't think buyers would want to pay with cheque or postal order (Have you seen what these things cost these days?) and lose eBay's buyer protection either. I think I would want to see and approve something that expensive, before parting with the readies.

    * Only collectors would be interested in this!

Makes me glad I'm not a collector. Given the prices he's asking for that and the rest of his ludicrously overpriced tat highly collectable vintage model railway items, I'm wondering if he forgot to change the starting price of this?

  9. Very interested to see whether this goes 'mad'.  Looks a really nice paint job but is strictly speaking incorrect due to it being an unrefurbished set (commented on in the listing).  Odd choice of unit number though.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-EMU-Class-411-4-CEP-South-West-Trains-Conversion-4-Car-Unit-/310620427658?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item48526b958a

He's also got this, which could prove interesting if the bidders haven't twigged they are getting just one power car and one coach.

  10. In general, I think the consensus here is that he charges premium prices.  Nothing wrong with that per se.  As long as he accurately describes what you're getting delivers it, then if the buyer considers it worthwhile, it's worthwhile.

Patience is a virtue and for me, I feel it better to wait until a similar item comes up with a lower price tag.

However, with the situation you describe, and assuming it's not normally available in that condition, then so long as you think it's worth it, it's worth it.  It's your money.  I suspect you can get 20pct VAT off as an overseas buyer, so the ticket price to you will seem better than to UK residents?

That is perhaps my biggest bone of contention with him. He will describe repainted Bachmann 37s as 'kit built' and virtually everything he sells is supposedly 'new or test run only' when often a cursory glance of the wheels tells a different story. And then there's all the stuff that has bits missing/been weathered/otherwise modified yet somehow is still in mint condition.

I'm with Metr0Land on this one - treat him as an absolute last resort and tread very, very carefully.

  11. 99.00 is the price on the CMC website. A touch cheaper than Hattons and Rails are quoting.

    Chris

Heh. That didn't last long, they're priced at £106 now.

  12. The 'tude, it seems, does at least do his homework and is selling a Comet 14XX chassis kit for the same price it would cost from Comet direct (incl. P&P). I guess he must think the 21 nectar points you can get from Ebay will be enough to persuade people to send their money his way rather than Comet's way. Sadly, in a lot of cases, he's probably right.

  13. LOL.....it always puts a grin on my face to see Micmcn making the headlines! :)  One question though, how come he has a 100% feedback?

Whilst they are both highly adept when it comes to taking the proverbial with item descriptions, I still think Micmcn is a bit behind Gostude, what with the latter's 'kit built' Baccy 37s and locos that manage to be both mint and hand-weathered at the same time etc.

"A great item for your collection"...... I'll be the judge of that thank you! ^_^

Aye, I find that almost as grating as Micmcn's "You are buying" spiel. Unless Satan's taken his snowboard into work, you can pretty much guarantee that no, I ain't buying!

  14. Seems that everything from our little friend these days is kit built, including this unbuilt kit. As I was sniggering at the whopping 50p discount compared to a new one, I noticed that unlike a new one it includes some Romford wheels so is it in fact *gulp* a bit of a bargain? :O

Must be that 'rare' J72 with the different chimney, Hornby/Triang couplings and no handrails along the boiler...

Apparently, one's already sold - don't hang about too much!

Love the way he describes it as "boxed" (with the quotes), meaning he's put it in a new box  The day Ebay implements a 'block seller' function and I can banish him, gosturd and various other shysters from my radar forever can't come soon enough.
