As the lubrication required is limited has a different form of factory applied grease been used as oppossed to that previously which could lock up the mechanism when it dires. Also on the subject of the that locking up grease one thing that I have never been clear about is that once a loco has been lubricated is there any of grease left that can then later on lock up the mechanism. As for the lubrication I use Daywat as I cannot get on with the Dapoil which seems to be far too thin to stay on a pin or bend piece of wire.

We were originally going to fit the Brit with power transfer springs for loco to tender connection, but decided to have these wired instead.
Now, in a change form the B17 etc, the wires are screwed in as each wire has soldered 'eyes' each end to help electrical contact. We have also had 2 'thermistors' fitted tender side of the 2 wires to apparently (as the theory of this is beyond me) soak up electrical heat caused by derailments etc.
Replacement wires and screws are in the accessory pack included with the loco, as are a pair of replacement traction tyres, and these 'spares' will be available from Dapol on the loco's launch which will be in less than a month.
apparently ? I assume its been fully tested. Having suffered the springs failing on an Ixion Manor due to a short I welcome the use of the wires but hope the thermistors have been fully shown to protect the model from a short circuit and also not too generate so much heat themselves as to damage the tender body or the chassis. Would those spares fit the Manor ?

That layout must be a decade old as well, as it was in one of the early Model Rails (as distinct from the supplement that appeared in Rail)

New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item. See the seller's listing for full details.
How the hell can it be unopened, or has he got 2, one for the picture, one to sell?
Think this has come up before.
Its yet another seller who has not read Ebays revised listing discriptions - you have a choice of two defaults; New which then goes on to state in the listing that it is unopened etc, or Used. The alternative is not to enter any item condition and to describe it in the text decription as New opened for the photo, or similar

A preserved layout done well can be popular - Dduallt and Goathland spring to mind. However there is too much tendancy for the anything goes on many which whilst acceptable as a one off can stretch credibility too far. I am working on a layout that can run as late 50s, mid 60s, late 80s and late 00s - the latter two being as a preserved line (the two periods due to trying run the correct locos at that date in contrast to anying goes). This will have a changeable scene across the front of the layout, a BR lorry depot with a small car dealers changing into it being entirely a car dealers and then it has been landscaped as a park with benches in which a vehicle rally is taking place.

Doug,
have a set of instructions - will pm them to you

Reported to eBay as it cannot be UNOPENED if they have renamed and renumbered the locomotive.
Theres a lot of listed items which the same can be said about, the unopened etc is a new standard entry by ebay which the seller has no control over if they choose the items condition to be NEW. They can alternatively choose USED which would be almost equally inaccurate. The only other option is to leave the items condition question as unanswered which will show up as black or as a -

I fitted a small shim between the bottom of coupler shank & the NEM socket & it all measures up OK against Kadee height gauge. Some do & some don't when first plugged in.
I would second that - a offcut from a brass etching surround usually does the trick when slipped between the bottom of the coupling and the socket and if needed can be bent slightly to hold the Kadee at the correct height.

Some barking mad bidding on item 200485160951 when an identical Hornby OO Rocket set has just sold for a good bit less (item 120584963087)

Got earlier in the week 16 yards of brand new flex (well Hornbys semi-flex stuff) for 3p under £18 including postage - the seller had described it as "R.8090 track" so defeated anyone searching for flexible track or R8090. Only found it at the last moment searching for stuff ending soonest.
-
Hes got a point though, most have no idea of potage rates and think recorded will cover the costs if the item goes astray. Recorded does not increase the payable compensation beyond £41, you have to use Special Delivery which for any loco is likely to be at least £5.50. Charging say £6 for postage will see paypal take 20p leaving just 30p to cover the packaging

And yet another item where ebays new defination of New is wrongly used. I've taken to not indicating New on a lot of stuff that is new but has been unpacked or repacked as a result.

Back to rail matters this double fairlie looks like its been involved in a heavy shunt (or worse) from either end

Was not 47163 one of the earlier 47ish adopted 57s that Bachmann produced rather than the more corrected toolings of the recent releases.
-
Looks a bit of alright does that - I wonder when it will percolate through to the non box-shifters?
Already seem to have - O`Loughlins of Kendal are advertising them on Ebay

All assembly diagrams should be on Bachamnns web site at
http://www.Bachmann.co.uk/service/assmbly.php
However they seem to have deleted the 4 tank from the list whilst keeping both versions of 4-6-0 on it. A quick look up the cat nos gives the service sheet pdf for the tank as being

Oddly, Hattons have it listed at ??87.00 while Kernow have the RRP at ??84.95
Its not unknown for Hattons to overcharge which will probably come as a surprise to those who think Hattons are always the cheapest Normally its a rounding up to the nearest pound, ie they charged 5.00 for some Farish wagons which had a list price of 4.75 and typically could be found for 4.25 nearly everywhere else.

The Bromsgrove site links to a relatively old Steve Jones article on a web archive.

Whilst that is useful for the dismantling the model process the actual decoder (lenz LE1025A) used is pretty much extinct today. If its any help mine has a TCS MC2 in it which fits the chassis neatly.

As far as I am aware he does not take credit cards anyway (I assume that rules out debit ones as well).
Not been in there since I bought a tin of varnish only to find it completely dried up

Whatever his morals or lack of them in grabbing as many Ltd Editions as he can presumably afford, listing the same items at different prices is in itself barking.
